- Former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal just received his very own custom Corvette.
- The Chevrolet sports car is some 20 inches longer than stock to fit Shaq’s frame.
- It remains unclear if modifications allow him to drive the car with its roof installed.
Being so tall that you still stand out on a basketball team comes with its perks, like picking your friends out of a crowd or handling light bulbs without ever touching a ladder. On the flip side, it can make things like buying pants or sports cars challenging since both are typically made for people of average height.

Of course, when you’re a former NBA superstar like Shaquille O’Neal, you can just pay for someone to customize your car the way they would trousers.

That’s exactly what Shaq had the folks from Effortless Motors do to a C8 Corvette Z06. If that company name sounds familiar, it might be due to their run-in with LeBron James a little over a year ago. Effortless Motors admitted to posting a fake video connecting themselves to James. Despite that questionable behavior, Shaq commissioned the C8 Corvette earlier this year.
Not So Subtle Stretch
Now that it’s finally delivered, we’re getting a look at it, and frankly, it’s impressively normal-looking, despite being 20 inches (500 mm) longer than stock. Based on the photos, it appears that the craftsmen working on the sports car added the length right behind the back side of the door.
That said, we get the feeling that most everyday folks probably wouldn’t spot the difference if this car just happened to roll by one day.
It’s worth noting that while Shaq technically fits in this car, we seem to be getting just half of the story. As a guy who is as tall as Michael Jordan, I can attest to the fact that the Corvette has a very low roof line. In fact, while I don’t have the leg length challenges that Shaq does, my eye line sits at the same height as the top of the windshield.
Based on the videos and images we have here, it appears that Shaq has to sit ahead of the rear bulkhead to fit in the car.

That arrangement raises a new question: can the roof even be installed while he’s inside? Unless Effortless Motors reworked the seating position, driving with the top closed may not be possible. We’ve reached out to the shop for clarification, and if they did manage to lower the seat, it would make this already ambitious build even more impressive.
