NONWICK: Tires for my 1967 Ford Mustang!

…but no wheels, yet. The tires have arrived for my 1967 Ford Mustang project car. I’ve opted to go with a set of T/A Radials, courtesy of my friends at BFGoodrich. While my initial plan was to run something a bit more aggressive, I think the T/A is a perfect starting point. It’s a tire that looks right on an older car and, more importantly, it’s available in a size that fits a 15-inch wheel.

Initially, I was considering a few 17-inch wheel options. My plan was to either go with something classically appropriate from American Racing or piss people off with a modern wheel from Fifteen52. However, I have decided to go in a different direction. It’s a direction I was also considering, but that decision was solidified after spending the day at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion during the most recent Car Week.

When you encounter some of the most bad-ass machines on the planet, you have to respect the drip—not oil drip, but perfectly styled wheels for perfectly awesome machines. I am talking about all of the Trans-Am era race cars and the gorgeous Minilites sitting at all four corners of most of them.

I am not sure how long they will take to arrive, but I’ve placed an order for a set of Minilites from the UK. Once they get here, the 225 front and 245 rear setup will get mounted on my Mustang. After that, it’s time to have the wiring finished. I have an engine on the way, more on that soon. But for now, here’s a small gallery of what I saw at Laguna Seca that helped me seal the deal in terms of the style direction for my own Mustang.
