George Russell clinched Mercedes’ first victory of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix in a dramatic race that ended with a collision between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Russell made a strong start from pole position and held off Max Verstappen to lead the race, which was shaped by a mix of one-stop and two-stop strategies across the field.

As the race progressed, most of the frontrunners opted for a two-stop approach, setting up a tense final phase with close gaps among the top five. Russell maintained his lead from Verstappen, while Piastri chased Kimi Antonelli for third, with Norris close behind. The McLaren drivers engaged in a heated battle that ended in contact when Norris hit the back of Piastri’s car, forcing him to retire. A Safety Car was deployed to recover Norris’ car, and Russell took advantage to secure his fourth career win, with Verstappen finishing second.

There was further cause for celebration at Mercedes as Kimi Antonelli claimed third place, marking his first-ever podium in Formula 1. Piastri managed to hold onto fourth after pitting under the Safety Car, while Charles Leclerc took fifth for Ferrari ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton in sixth. Fernando Alonso added more points for Aston Martin by finishing seventh, with Nico Hulkenberg securing eighth for Kick Sauber. Esteban Ocon marked Haas’ 200th Grand Prix with a ninth-place finish, and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top ten for Williams after a challenging race for the team.

Ollie Bearman narrowly missed out on points in eleventh, while Yuki Tsunoda recovered from 18th to finish twelfth. Franco Colapinto came home thirteenth for Alpine, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto in fourteenth and Pierre Gasly in fifteenth. Isack Hadjar took sixteenth for Racing Bulls, and Lance Stroll, enduring a tough home race, was the final classified driver in eighteenth.

Three drivers failed to finish the race: Lando Norris after his crash, Liam Lawson due to a mechanical issue, and Alex Albon, who retired with a power unit problem on his Williams.
