  • Alfa Romeo and Maserati are reportedly working on a limited edition sports car.
  • It could be based on the GranTurismo and equipped with a manual transmission.
  • The models might have an upgraded twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 developing over 621 hp.

Alfa Romeo and Maserati are said to be considering a limited edition model that could follow in the footsteps of the 33 Stradale and MC20. However, in this case, the car would reportedly be based on the GranTurismo.

}
});

According to Autocar, the mysterious model could be launched as early as next year and be the “most exclusive and powerful combustion-engined car the firm has produced since the MC12.” The publication suggests it could be powered by an upgraded version of the company’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter Nettuno V6.

There’s no word on numbers, but the car is rumored to be more powerful than the MCPura, which has 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque. Maserati’s head of engineering, Davide Danesin, suggested the car could eschew electrification and feature a manual transmission.

He described the latter as an “opportunity” as it would emphasize this as a “purely mechanical car.” Danesin added that while a manual wouldn’t make sense on a series production vehicle, a limited run model is a different story.

The publication believes the Maserati variant could be introduced next year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Tipo 26, which was the brand’s first car. An Alfa Romeo variant could follow one year later as a tribute to the 6C 1500, which also turns 100. While only time will tell what happens, the models are expected to cost far more than the MCPura.
