Tesla Model Y delivery times blow out in Europe, hinting at 2025 ‘Juniper’ update

Delivery times for the Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive have been pushed to May 2025 in some European countries, suggesting the updated model could be imminent.

The facelifted 2025 Tesla Model Y electric SUV could be weeks away from making its debut, with delivery times blowing out six months in Europe for the current model.

Tesla’s online configurator now lists an estimated May 2025 delivery time for the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive in several European countries, including France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range All-Wheel Drive and Performance All-Wheel Drive variants remain available for customer deliveries between December 2024 and February 2025, like most other global markets – including Australia.

However, the move to delay certain variants of the Model Y in Europe suggests Tesla could be preparing to launch an updated model – codenamed ‘Juniper’ – as soon as the first quarter of 2025 (January to March inclusive).

The update was spied testing as recently as late October with a unique ‘split’ headlight design and what appears to be full-width tail-lights, as Tesla moves the design of the family SUV further from the Model 3 sedan it is based on.

Inside, the Model Y is expected to have a similar look to the facelifted Model 3, inheriting a larger 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, ventilated front seats, a revised dashboard, the removal of steering wheel stalks, and other tweaks.

The current Model Y is the final Tesla model on sale to include steering wheel stalks, with the Model 3, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck featuring buttons on the steering wheel for the indicators, and a gear selector built into the side of the touchscreen.

The Tesla Model Y is built in the United States – in Fremont, California and Austin, Texas – Shanghai, China and Berlin, Germany.

Australian versions are sourced from China while most European versions are manufactured in Germany – however Tesla is expected to coordinate the launch for the updated model across its different production locations.

In an X post in June 2024, Tesla CEO Elon Musk ruled out a launch before January 2025, confirming “no Model Y ‘refresh’ is coming out [in 2024]”.

The Tesla Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023 with 1.223 million examples delivered across the globe compared to 1.075 million Toyota RAV4s and 846,000 Honda CR-Vs.
