The facelifted 2025 Tesla Model Y electric SUV has been spied testing in Europe ahead of its expected reveal in the coming weeks.

New spy images of the facelifted 2025 Tesla Model Y electric SUV have emerged out of Europe ahead of its formal unveiling expected in the coming weeks.

The images reveal the design changes coming to the Model Y in clearer detail than before, confirming it will receive a new split headlight design to further differentiate the Tesla SUV from the Model 3 sedan it is based on.

Tesla is expected to unveil its newest Model Y – codenamed ‘Juniper’, following the Model 3 ‘Highland’ facelift revealed in 2023 – within weeks, with Chinese media reporting mass production has commenced at the brand’s factory in Shanghai.

Once unveiled, the 2025 Model Y will likely reach Australian showrooms within two to three months – suggesting it could be on local roads by the middle of the year.

Revisions at the front of the electric SUV will include a new front bumper with redesigned headlights featuring a split look, while the camouflage over the bonnet suggests it could be reprofiled for improved aerodynamics like the Model 3.

New alloy wheel designs are also likely – although the example spied in Europe is fitted with the existing 20-inch Induction wheel style.

While the rear has been camouflaged, the spied vehicle appears to align with a leaked image which surfaced online in August 2024 of a full-width light bar similar to the the Cybertruck and Cybercab.

The rear-view camera has been relocated to above the light bar, while the tailgate is expected to be redesigned with the number plate moved to the rear bumper.

Inside, the Model Y will resemble the facelifted Model 3, inheriting its larger 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, ventilated front seats, revised dashboard, ambient lighting strips, and other tweaks.

The steering wheel stalks will also be removed in line with the newest Model 3, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, which instead feature buttons on the steering wheel for the indicators, and a gear selector built into the side of the touchscreen.

Tesla claims the Model Y is “on track” to remain the world’s best-selling car in 2024 – following its number-one finish in 2023 – with official global data for the full year due to be collated across all manufacturers in the coming days.

Electric vehicle sales data published by the Electric Vehicle Council reports 21,253 Tesla Model Y vehicles were delivered in Australia in 2024, down 26 per cent from 2023 when 28,769 were sold, as Tesla sales in Australia declined more significantly last year than its global deliveries.

In Australia, Tesla sales fell 17 per cent in 2024 compared to the previous year, while its global sales were down 1 per cent.
