New ‘MCL38’ specials celebrate McLaren F1 title

While the 2025 F1 season isn’t very far away, McLaren is still celebrating its achievements from last term. Understandably, too, given its Constructors’ Championship was the first McLaren title in years – and it hadn’t been going great prior to ‘24. So an occasion to be marked, which it is doing with a brace of ‘MCL38’ special editions, the name a nod to last year’s GP racer. 

The Artura and 750S are the basis for the limited-run machines, with nine examples of each getting the MCL38 Celebration Edition overhaul. That’s for the entire planet, too, so these will be very rare even by McLaren special standards. And it’s nine each for nine constructors’ championships won in total. All 18 MCL38s get a McLaren Special Operations overhaul, with Papaya Orange and Anthracite – plus the chevron colour transition – just like the F1 cars.

Additional goodies include a ‘Nine Star’ logo (literally a ‘9’ made of stars; it’s not so great) plus a ‘Champions’ Laurel’ – so nobody will mistake either Artura or 750S for any other MSO commission. Inside is perhaps where the Celebration Editions get most interesting, because the Visual Carbon Fibre Extended Sill Cover is signed by both Piastri and Norris. Each of the cars also gets a dedication plaque that includes an actual bit of MCL38 carbon bodywork, plus another plaque (somebody definitely got the limited edition memo) in the front boot, documenting the wins, poles and fastest laps achieved last year. 

McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters said: “The achievements of Zak Brown, Andrea Stella, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and the entire McLaren Racing team in winning the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship are beyond inspirational – and what better way to mark this than with an ultra-exclusive Celebration Edition of our award-winning Artura and 750S.”

He added: “Just nine examples of the Artura and nine of the 750S MCL38 Celebration Edition cars will be produced, each proudly commemorating McLaren’s most recent championship victory as well as delivering the exhilarating and unbeatable driving experience inherent in our world-class supercars.”

A price hasn’t been announced for either of the MCL38s, though it wouldn’t be a surprise to find them all allocated already. Or very soon, at least. Imagine what MSO will have to conjure up if 2025 is equally successful…
