New Energy Asia launched – joint venture to distribute EV charging equipment in Malaysia, ASEAN markets

New Energy Asia (NEA) has been formed as a joint venture between Hicom Engineering and Hangzhou Flash Charging (HFC) for the distribution rights to charging equipment in the Malaysian and Asean markets.

Hangzhou Flash Charging (HFC) is a subsidiary of Lotus Technology, and New Energy Asia will distribute its portfolio of EV charging equipment currently produced by HFC, covering both AC chargers and DC fast chargers.

Its line-up of DC chargers range from air-cooled versions which can output 30 kW to 240 kW, as well as liquid-cooled versions that can output from 300 kW to 450 kW, the latter more than enough to make the most of the charging capability of EVs such as the Lotus Emeya, which can take up to 400 kW to recharge from 10 to 80% in just 14 minutes.

In addition to its range of air- and liquid-cooled DC fast chargers, NEA will also distribute AC chargers, including a smart AC charger that can be configured for 7.4 kW, 11 kW and 22 kW output levels. The company will also supply advanced energy storage systems to support growing demand for home and commercial energy solutions, Hicom Engineering said in its statement.

Although the range of products are currently shown with Lotus branding, New Energy Asia can also distribute its EV charging products on a white-label basis for sale to business operators who intend to target EV users beyond just customers of Lotus EVs, Hicom Engineering said.

Currently, NEA will focus its operations on product distribution and aftersales support on a business-to-business (B2B) basis, and not as a charge point operator (CPO), the company added.

New Energy Asia will be focusing its operations on the distribution and aftersales support of its EV charging products, according to the company, and it plans to bring the manufacturing of its products to Malaysia.

While the charging equipment from HFC will be imported from China to begin with, NEA has plans to bring local assembly of the products to the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjung Malim, and it aims to do so once its EV charging equipment have been on sale in Malaysia for one and-a-half to two years.

The launch event for New Energy Asia also saw the signing of memoranda of collaboration with Future Fuelling Malaysia, Pro-Net, and Malakoff Green solutions.

These collaborations aim to advance clean mobility solutions and drive innovation in energy solutions and charging technology for both passenger and commercial vehicles, Hicom Engineering said in its statement.
