From the heartbeat of Cape Coast to the bright lights of global stages, Wilhelmina Jane Austin, professionally known as Mz Orstin, has always been a woman of rhythm, courage, and trailblazing purpose. But long before she was crowned The Party Queenpin, she was simply a young girl in Adenta, Accra, moved by the sounds that made the world dance. Raised in a community alive with culture and sound, little Wilhelmina found magic in music. Dance was her first language, rhythm her first love. And though the decks came later, her journey toward the music was always written in her spirit. Her educational path was as layered as her soundtracks — beginning at Star Avenue School, moving through Adenta Community School and Hannah School Complex, and eventually stepping into Accra Girls’ Senior High School, where her individuality began to take center stage. It was there she realized that music wasn’t just background noise — it was a bold form of expression. That realisation set her path in motion. She later enrolled at the University of Ghana, Legon, and pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. While her peers were studying theories of the mind, she was exploring the frequencies of the soul. Even in academia, she couldn’t ignore the call of music. She followed DJs to their gigs, watched them command rooms, and slowly began envisioning herself behind the turntables. Her first formal step into media came with Red FM at the Vodafone Ghana Headquarters (now Telecel Ghana), under Global Media Alliance. But even then, music tugged at her heart louder than anything else. After graduation, she dared to dream differently — and instead of walking into a 9-to-5, she walked into the world of DJing, where few women had gone before her.

One of the most defining — and defying — moments of her career came with the Rexona Do More Concert, hosted by Charterhouse Ghana. Despite hesitation from executives who feared a female DJ might not command the stage, Mz Orstin delivered a performance that echoed far beyond the music. She shattered expectations. And in doing so, she kicked open doors for herself and for women across Ghana. Her journey has not been without noise — not just the kind she creates, but the doubts, criticism, and barriers that female DJs face in male-dominated industries. She’s been told she charges too much, questioned simply for being bold, and challenged at every level.

But Mz Orstin learned early on that confidence is a skill, and excellence is a choice. “Don’t take it personal,” she says. “Work smart. Stay current. Be kind to yourself. And never stop practicing.”

Her mantra comes from the late Aaliyah:
“If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again.”
And for Mz Orstin, that dust turned to stardust.

From being the resident DJ at Bella Roma’s famed Wednesday nights, to spinning beats on YFM Ghana’s Top 20 Countdown, The Weekend Rush, and Room Service, Mz Orstin became a staple in Ghana’s music scene. She rocked stages at Plot 7 Night Club, headlined elite venues like FireFly Lounge, One2One Bar at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, and delivered unforgettable performances as the official DJ of Miss Malaika Ghana.

In 2018, she made history by organizing her own concert, “Live Jam with Mz Orstin,” becoming the first female DJ in Ghana to host and headline her own show. With live jazz, female vocalists, and DJ-led sets, she didn’t just play music — she created an experience. A moment.

That same year, she released her debut mixtape, “For the Love of Ghana,” garnering over 20,000 streams on SoundCloud and capturing the heartbeat of a nation through sound. From single releases like “Tea Time” and “AfroLove”, to collaborations with artists like CJ Biggerman and Ntelabi, Mz Orstin’s artistry continues to grow. She was recognized by Ameyaw Debrah as one of Ghana’s Top 5 Female DJs, and consistently receives Ghana DJ Awards nominations, proving her craft and impact are undeniable.

Beyond the decks and spotlights, Mz Orstin is an architect of opportunity. As Director of Africa Operations at Turntable Entertainment and Co-Founder of the Turntable Entertainment Block Party, she is building platforms where African music, culture, and talent shine on their own terms. She mentors young DJs who reach out with questions, doubts, or dreams. She shares wisdom, not secrets. She uplifts others the same way she rose — with grace, grit, and grounded ambition. Her voice echoes across empowerment platforms like the Charterhouse National Women’s Summit and the Telecel Women 100 Power Connect, reminding every woman that it’s possible to own your sound — and your space.

To young dreamers — especially young women navigating spaces that weren’t built for them — Mz Orstin’s story is a symphony of resilience and self-belief. She stands as proof that you can rewrite your story, remix your path, and become the soundtrack to your own success. Whether you’re a girl with headphones in Adenta or a young mind with a spark in your soul, let her journey be your beat of bold beginnings. Mz Orstin is not just a DJ. She is a movement. A mood. A message: You are enough. You are powerful. And you were born to be heard.
