My OSD Experience | SwedeSpeed

Since my car arrived at the dealer today I thought I’d make a post about my journey. Stick around till the end as the delivery gets extra spicy (pictures are attached).

Late June 24: Place order for V60 P* for OSD via my local dealer. Set delivery for 10 December

Late July: Get contacted by Adtrav to work out flights/hotels. Go back/forth about flights till I’m happy with something around mid August

December 8th: Leave US headed to Gothenburg

December 9th: Arrive Gothenburg. I picked the SK Mat & Människor for my dinner voucher and we ate there the first night. It was an awesome place to eat once for the experience, but very very pricey. We stayed at the Jacy’z hotel and loved it. Hotel was a beautiful art deco styling. It was a pretty hefty walk to downtown in the cold, but we managed it.

December 10th: World of Volvo to pick up the car and visit the museum. Had a fantastic time there, all the staff are wonderful. We wander around downtown a bit admiring all the Christmas stuff.

December 11th-12th: We drive up to Oslo and visit some landmarks and christmas markets in the area. The museums are great, we really liked the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History

December 12th: We go to another couple of museums and get on a ferry to Copenhagen

December 14th-16th: We go exploring all the castles and palaces in the area as well as a bunch of museums. We stumbled into some kind of pagan Jule parade while there. There were people dressed up as goats and one guy in stilts dressed as a raven. One of the people had a sign that said “Julebukken”.

December 17th: We drove up to Helsingor stopping in Fredricksborg to see the castle there and checking out the castle in Helsingor. We take a quick ferry to Helsingborg where we stay for the night.

December 18th: Drive up to Gothenburg, drop off car, do last minute gift shopping

December 19th: Go home :(

Janurary 10th: Car gets loaded onto a boat

Janurary 31st: Car makes it to Brunswick

This is the point where things drag. I know the car has already cleared customs so it should just be waiting for a truck at this point. I contact Volvo and they said it should get to the dealer 10 Feb. Neat! I wait and no car. I ask the dealer and wait some more and no sign of it. Dealer tries on his end to track it down. Dealer tracks it down on the 18th says it will be here the 20th (today).

So it did make it to the dealer today (obviously). I get a call this morning that goes like this:

Dealer: Did your car have any damage when you shipped it?
Me: No, just some road rash on the wheels (screw you Danish roads)
Dealer: Do you know if anyone hit something or anything happened to it?
Me: I hope not. Whats up?
Dealer: Your car was delivered after hours and is covered in blood and viscera….
Me: …….Wha…What? Run that by me again please…..

In come the pictures. I absolutely could not believe it. So far we have no idea what happened. The dealer is working with Volvo to track down the trucking company and ask WTF. There does not appear to be any damage, but the dealer is going to clean it up and inspect it to make sure. Cudos to the dealership as they have been very helpful and responsive.

So far my working theory is my car was loaded on a truck in Brunswick per normal and while that truck was driving its route it must have hit a deer and completely atomized it. The first truck was damaged causing a second truck to be sent out to collect the cars and continue the route. This would explain the delivery delay. The second truck eventually makes it to the Volvo dealership and dumps the car off after hours to avoid having to have the discussion of why the car now looks like an accessory to murder.

Barring any issues I should be able to pick it up tomorrow none the worse for wear from its ordeal. I’m going to bring some cash to tip the poor soul that has to detail that because I’m positive that he’s not paid enough to have to pick out decaying deer (i assume) flesh from the grill. Hopefully my post was informative and entertaining for you.
