The car maker has teased a rugged-looking, off-road electric SUV which it is set to reveal in full at the upcoming Shanghai motor show.
MG has teased a new off-road-styled electric SUV – named CyberX – which is due to be revealed at the Shanghai motor show next week, and is yet to be confirmed or ruled out for Australia.
While it may have a Tesla-like name, the MG CyberX will be the second model in MG’s ‘Cyber’ range alongside its electric Cyberster sports car – launched here in 2024 – but is a boxy SUV similar to a Defender or Jeep Wrangler.
Official images from the car maker show an upright shape, showing off blistered wheel arches, full-width LED lights front and rear and illuminated MG badging.
Details such as the drivetrain and pricing have not yet been shared, and are expected at its full show reveal next week.
MG Australia is yet to confirm if the CyberX will head to Australian showrooms once it has been unveiled to the public.
The CyberX will reportedly bring a number of firsts for the MG brand, including the debut of the new-generation ‘E3’ dedicated electric platform from parent company SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation).
Planned for a host of new MG models, it includes ‘cell-to-body’ (CTB) construction where the battery forms part of the body structure, saving weight and complexity.
UK publication Autocar reports it will join another eight new MGs due in China by the end of 2027, including sports models, passenger cars and SUVs.
In Australia, MG’s model roll-out will include the diesel-powered MG U9 dual-cab ute, which made its public debut at the 2025 Melbourne motor show earlier this month and is scheduled for Australian showrooms by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive update of the MG 4 electric car is due in Australian showrooms in early 2026, with the closely-related MG S5 electric SUV due imminently.
The MG QS seven-seat SUV is also set for local showrooms mid-2025, while a new price-leading entry-level MG 3 is also expected to arrive in local showrooms soon.
