As expected, the new Mercedes CLA electric will be quite expensive. Prices start at €55,859 for the CLA 250+.
Mercedes has announced prices for the new Mercedes CLA Electric. They start at €55,859 for the Mercedes CLA 250+ which is powered by a 200 kW (272 PS) and 335 Nm motor that drives the rear axle. The Li-Ion battery with a net capacity of 85 kWh promises a very competitive 320 kW of charging power and the WLTP range is between 694 and 792 km.
The top version Mercedes CLA 350+ 4Matic starts at €60,381 and features two permanent magnet synchronous motors developing a total of 260 kW and 515 Nm (200 kW rear and 80 kW front). The engines are powered by the same 85 kWh battery as the CLA 250+ which charges up to 320 kW and offers a WLTP range of 672-771 km.
At the start of sales, a special launch Edition series (package price €12,501) is on offer which includes exclusive AMG 19-inch wheels, Magno Cosmo black paint, AMG Line, and Night package.
Those who don’t want to opt for the special launch series can order separately the AMG Line package (€3,201) with 18-inch AMG wheels, sports seats in combination in Artico synthetic leather with Microcut fiber, multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather or the AMG Line Plus package (€5,581).
Then various packages are available such as:
– Advanced Plus package (€1,470) with ambient lighting, Keyless-Go, rear armrest
– Premium package (€3,321) which offers Thermotronic climate control and seat memory package in addition to the Advanced Plus package
– Premium Plus Plus package (€5,432) which comes with a head-up display and Pre-Safe system in addition to the Premium package.
The head-up display can also be ordered separately for €892.50, while the Google navigation system is standard but the augmented reality costs an extra €500. The Burmester audio system with 16 speakers, 850W, and Dolby Atmos is standard or optional depending on the packages chosen.
A base Mercedes CLA version with a 58 kWh iron phosphate battery will be offered at a later date, and we think it will start at a price below €50,000.
Much more expensive than the Tesla Model 3
Since as we’ve written here, the new Mercedes CLA Electric has similar dimensions, motors, and batteries to the Tesla Model 3, the price comparison is inevitable.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range with a 283 PS motor and 75 kWh Li-Ion battery that gives a WLTP range of 702 km costs 44,990 euros and is better-equipped standard than the Mercedes CLA 250+ Electric which starts at 55,859 euros. So the difference is almost €11,000 on the base price.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range with two motors offering a total of 498 PS and the same 75 kWh battery costs 49,990 euro while the Mercedes CLA 350+ 4Matic with 260 kW (354 PS) and 85 kWh battery starts at 60,381 euro, almost 10,500 euro more expensive. Tesla has also 144 PS more power and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, compared with 4.9 seconds for the Mercedes CLA 350+ 4Matic.
Mercedes hasn’t announced the price of the base CLA 250 with 58 kWh iron phosphate battery but a base Tesla Model 3 with 60 kWh iron phosphate battery and 283 PS motor starts at 39,990 euro. We estimate the Mercedes CLA 250 will start at around €50,000.
