Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH is leaving its former Kienle headquarters in Heimerdingen and is doubling the capacity of the Mercedes Classic Center in Fellbach. The inauguration is scheduled for 2026.
Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH expanded its classic car operations after acquiring the employees, components, and machinery of the insolvent Kienle Automobiltechnik GmbH at the beginning of 2024. By taking over 25 employees from Kienle, the workforce at the Classic Center has nearly doubled.
Markus Breitschwerdt, head of Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH, stated that seats can now be built at the Classic Center and that a new paint shop will soon be operational.
For logistical reasons, Mercedes left the Kienle site and is now expanding the Fellbach facilities. In addition to the current Classic Center in Fellbach, which was opened in 1993, Mercedes has secured another location nearby, just 300 meters from the existing premises. The service area will nearly double to 10,000 square meters, and together, the two locations will cover 18,000 square meters.
The new location will be inaugurated in 2026, and at the same time, the current Classic Center will be modernized. In the future, 70 people will work there across departments such as body shop, paint shop, engine construction and repair, saddlery, hydraulics, electrical and electronics, service, restoration, racing, metal construction, saddlery, and carpentry.
The Classic Center will also offer both new and used spare parts for classic models that are no longer available through Mercedes’ standard parts network. The range will include components for the W123, 300 SL Gullwing, SLR, the first-generation SLK, various generations of the Mercedes SL, and the first-generation CLS.
Mercedes’ classic car division was reorganized in 2023 with the founding of Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH, which encompasses the museum, vehicle collection, classic car restoration business, manufacturer expertise, and vehicle trading.
For Mercedes, the classic car division means more than just a profit center — it is an important tool for customer loyalty. Classic car customers are among the brand’s top clients. Moreover, through the Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH division, Mercedes succeeds in highlighting the brand’s rich history and its iconic models.
