Last week, Mercedes-AMG teased a low-slung silhouette of what appeared to be the replacement for its GT 4-door coupe. Now, they’ve pulled the curtain even more, by giving us a sneak peek with the clearest images so far of the upcoming all-electric performance super sedan. We see a sharply sculpted prototype with clear ties to the stunning Vision AMG concept, which we saw in 2022.
First impressions are impressive, and it appears this isn’t going to be just another Mercedes EQ sedan with AMG badges. The design is unmistakably AMG with aggressive proportions: a long hood, wide stance, and coupe-like roofline. But look closer and you’ll find some noticeable changes. Unlike the 4-door coupe’s liftback, you get a more traditional trunk with a subtle spoiler. While the flush door handles should help with aerodynamics, the multi-spoke wheels are a nod to Mercedes’ tradition.

Upfront, the star-shaped daytime running lights appear to be production-ready and enlarged versions of what we saw on the recent CLA facelift. While there is no apparent grille, in the conventional sense, slats in the lower bumper could hint at cooling needs. We’re still unsure if the backlit Panamericana grille as seen on the Vision AMG concept will make it to the production variant. At the rear, the tail-lights on the prototype, small and circular with a three-pointed motif, don’t really fit the car, and may just be pre-production units or part of a larger tail-light assembly.
As for what’s underneath the skin, riding on a dedicated AMG.EA platform, this will be Affalterbach’s first ground-up electric car. Previous reports have suggested that this platform will make use of axial flux motors from U.K.-based engineering firm YASA, with single and dual-motor setups as a possibility. Paired with dedicated silicon-anode batteries from California-based SILA Nanotechnologies that offer 40% more energy density compared to graphite anode batteries, AMG could be aiming for a four-digit horsepower figure, aimed squarely at the likes of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Audi RS eTron GT.
The biggest challenge for any EV is range. But for a performance brand like AMG, it’s also going to be weight. All details will be revealed at the car’s official unveiling sometime next month in June.
