Mercedes-AMG plans to launch three fully electric models on the dedicated AMG.EA electric platform. In addition to the AMG GT 4-door coupe and SUV versions, a supersport model codenamed C592 will also follow.
Unlike Audi Sport GmbH and BMW M GmbH, which have chosen to continue relying on conventional models or, at most, PHEVs (see BMW M5), Mercedes-AMG has invested heavily in a new dedicated electric platform, AMG.EA, which is different from MB.EA, and wants to make it profitable as quickly as possible. The AMG.EA platform will use 800V technology like the MB.EA platform.
To achieve the minimum level of profitability, it needs to develop several models based on the new architecture. Two of them are already known, and we have written about them before.
One is the successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe, codenamed C590, whose teaser was presented on the Mercedes-AMG Facebook page on May 8, 2025. On this occasion, Mercedes announced “Something big” for June 2025. Therefore, we expect it to be presented in a form close to the production version next month and to be available towards the end of the year.
The second model is a standalone SUV that has no counterpart in the Mercedes range, codenamed X591. Mercedes presented the first photo of the camouflaged silhouette of this SUV in December 2024. With a fairly low profile, closer to a crossover than an SUV, this model will be unveiled in 2026 and will go on sale in 2027. It could replace the current Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic.
The third model is a two-seater hypercar codenamed C592 that could outperform the current Mercedes-AMG One with a Formula 1-inspired hybrid powertrain.
But let’s get back to the Mercedes-AMG 4-door GT Coupe, the first of the three models to be launched. As can be seen from the first teaser published by Mercedes-AMG on Facebook, it will have distinctive headlights and taillights, with daytime running lights that reproduce the Mercedes logo and two groups of three round taillights, inside which the Mercedes logo is also reproduced (two of the three taillights in each group are covered by camouflage).
A mobile spoiler will increase downforce on the rear axle at high speeds, the door handles will be recessed as on the EQE/EQS, the windshield wipers will be hidden, and the car will run on 22-inch aerodynamic wheels as on the Mercedes Vision AMG Concept.
The new super coupe will use axial-flow engines from YASA, a company bought by Mercedes. The Yasa engine weighs only 24 kg and develops up to 474 PS and 800 Nm, so the new model could deliver 948 PS and 1,600 Nm. There will also be a high-performance version with three engines that could develop incredible power and torque of 1,422 PS and 2,400 Nm.
Mercedes has chosen the three-engine solution while rival BMW is preparing a future electric M3/M4 based on the Neue Klasse architecture that will have four engines.
The engines will be powered by new batteries made in cooperation with Sila, in which the anode is made of a high percentage of silicon, which replaces the graphite at the negative pole of the battery. It will have a capacity of 100 kWh and, thanks to its excellent aerodynamics, could offer a range of between 600 and 725 km (375 to 450 miles).
The three-motor version could reach 100 kph in 2 seconds and 200 kph in 5 seconds, making it faster than the Mercedes-AMG One. The top speed will be 322 kph (200 mph).
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door electric coupe will compete with the Porsche Taycan, and the three-motor version will rival the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
