Nearly four months after announcing that the EZ-6 would make it outside of China as the 6e, Mazda has announced the start of export production at the Changan Mazda plant in Nanjing. The electric sedan will be headed for markets such as Europe and Southeast Asia, with Thailand already confirmed as one of the destinations this year.
As you will all know, the car isn’t coming out of Hiroshima because it wasn’t developed in-house. Instead, the 6e is a heavily redesigned version of the Deepal L07, the latter being a Changan product. Still, Mazda’s longstanding collaboration with the Chinese carmaker means the car strictly abides by its “globally unified manufacturing standards from design, research and development to production,” the company claims.
To wit, the Nanjing factory uses intelligent production lines and lean management models, equipped with highly-automated stamping, welding, painting and assembly processes. This, combined with leading digital quality inspection systems and management platforms, helps the two companies achieve precise control of the entire production process.
As a refresher, the 6e will be offered in two variants, both with a single rear motor. The base model produces 258 PS (190 kW) and 320 Nm of torque and uses a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to deliver a WLTP-rated range of 479 km. Meanwhile, the Long Range makes slightly less power at 245 PS (180 kW) but has a larger 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery for a claimed range of 552 km.
Changan Mazda also took the opportunity to reveal its new business plan, which includes a 10 billion yuan (RM6.1 billion) investment in new energy and 10 billion yuan in expected overseas trade. The company aims to doubling its output value and set “a benchmark for joint venture new energy in products, brands and global markets.”
The 6e will be joined by the production version of the Arata concept SUV, likely based on the Deepal S05. A report suggested that the car will be called the CX-6e, according to a trademark applied by Mazda.
