Two surprises with this latest pumped-up Porsche. First being that it’s from Manhart, a company best known for tuning BMWs (although they do work on other brands, and nothing quite proves that point like a baby blue 911). The second is just how powerful this Turbo S-based TR 900 II is; we’re used to silly power figures thanks to hybridisation – see the 727hp M5 and 800hp AMG V8s – yet here is a purely combustion Porsche with 922hp. Based on a car that already consistently punches above its weight in terms of power and acceleration. Autocar timed a standard one from 0-100mph in 5.7 seconds…
To achieve another 272hp over standard, Manhart has kitted out a 911 Turbo S with what it calls its Turbo performance kit. The standard blowers are replaced by TTH 1000 snails, the ECU is remapped to take full advantage and a new stainless steel exhaust system – complete with race downpipes and 200-cell cats – gets gases out of the flat-six and into those greedy turbos more efficiently. The PDK has been beefed up (Manhart hasn’t said exactly how) to contain the TR 900 II’s monster performance. Because you can guarantee a lot of customers will want to feel a 922hp/803lb ft launch, more than once as well.
Manhart’s external changes are equally punchy. The wheels, the company’s own forged Concave One items, are now 21-inch at the front and 22-inch at the rear. On a 911! It’s a little lower than standard, too, on H&R springs, while the aero kit – front spoiler, skirts, diffuser, rear spoiler – comes from Moshammer. Certainly no danger of this Turbo S blending in with all the rest of the 911s out there.
The inside is remarkably restrained by Manhart standards, with just a few blue highlights to serve as reminders that this is a TR 900 II. And the floor mats, of course. Which is probably the Manhart upgrade we could afford. There isn’t a price for the TR 900 II yet, nor confirmation of whether this is a one-off or a more widely available package, but given previous efforts this must represent several hundred thousand euros of Porsche 911. Hypercar-humbling performance never did come cheap. And the Manhart Turbo S even keeps its rear seats – what a day out with the (small) kids this might be…
