What’s more special than a $400,000 Lamborghini Huracan? A one-off version signed and blessed by Pope Francis himself.
While Pope Francis was known for his modest taste in cars, such as the Fiat 500 and Ford Focus during his papacy as the head of the Roman Catholic Church, you’d be surprised to know he once technically owned a Lamborghini Huracan.
Though His Holiness didn’t actually purchase the $390,000 exotic supercar, the luxury Italian car maker donated a custom version of the Huracan, decorated in white and yellow to match the Pontiff’s attire and the Vatican City flag.

Lamborghini officials personally delivered the luxury sports car to the Vatican City in November 2017, where Pope Francis signed the bonnet, but more priceless than the signature is the blessing the car received directly from His Holiness.
Rather than keep the vehicle, the Pontiff requested the Huracan to be auctioned off, where proceeds would be donated to various charities of the Pope’s choosing.
The Holy Lamborghini sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction on May 12 2018, for €809,375 (approximately $AU1.44 million in 2025), with part of the total donation distributed to the Pontifical Foundation ‘Aiuto alla Chiese che Soffre’ (Aid to the Church in Need) towards the rebuild of the Nineveh Plain in Iraq.
Additionally, part of the proceeds were given to the Pope John XXIII Community, which helped women who fell victim to trade and prostitution, while a further two African-based charities called “Progetto Casa Papa Francesco” (Pope Francis House Project) and GICAM were also given financial support as a result of the sale.
While the Lamborghini Huracan is powered by a monstrous 5.2-litre V10 engine that’s capable of going 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, Pope Francis was known for his climate-conscious beliefs, with Vatican city previously replacing its entire fleet with electric vehicles courtesy of Volkswagen.
As previously reported by Drive, the German car maker started to supply city-state officials with almost 40 examples of the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 EVs, as it continues to build its public charging network.
