While she may not be going to Mars anytime soon, Katy Perry’s car collection back on Earth is as surprising as her venture into space.
If you’ve been on social media recently, you might have read about Katy Perry’s 11-minute voyage to space. But back on Earth, the 40-year-old singer has a surprisingly interesting car collection of luxury and vintage models that has grown over the years.

When you’ve reached the upper echelon of fame, you’re almost expected to collect a garage full of expensive cars, and Perry is no exception.
According to multiple reports, the pop star has been seen in a range of luxury vehicles like an Audi A5, Maserati Gran Turismo, and a Porsche Cayenne.
However, you might be surprised to find out Perry has an appetite for unique cars that have balanced out her premium collection.
Mercedes-Benz Ponton Cabriolet and SL Class (Pagoda)
When you have a surplus of money like celebrities, it’s not unusual to find a collection of rare and vintage models.
But for Perry, her choice of luxury resides with German car maker Mercedes-Benz, with the pop star previously setting social media alight after she was seen driving a 1957 Mercedes-Benz W180 220S Ponton Cabriolet alongside her then-boyfriend, John Mayer.
Though Perry hasn’t said how much she paid for the vintage convertible, a similar model was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction for $US148,500 ($AU234,194).
According to the auction house, Mercedes-Benz only built 1066 Cabriolet examples in 1957, which, given the cost of the car, makes driving it on a normal day seem more far-fetched to the regular person.
Additionally, the famous singer has also been spotted driving a Mercedes-Benz SL Class (Pagoda) convertible in LA, but what event would justify driving two collectible classics on regular days? Who knows.
Smart Fortwo
Perry’s car collection has been floating in the zeitgeist for years, but it’s a custom Smart Fortwo hatch she used at a music event in 2008 that captured the singer’s early colourful aesthetic.
While Smart – now co-owned by Geely and Mercedes-Benz – has been renewed as an electric-only brand, the pop star’s version was powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine, with a maximum power output of 62kW/120Nm.
Perry’s custom Smart Fortwo featured her logo on the driver’s door, while pink hues are seen on the black wheels.
But in a true hit of nostalgia, the 40-year-old pop star also included the details of her MySpace account – a now-defunct social media platform that was popular in the mid-2000s.
Tesla Cybertruck
Elon Musk is no stranger to befriending A-list celebrities who endorse Tesla, and Perry is one of the latest pop stars to join the list of other celebrities like Beyonce and Lady Gaga, who have added the controversial Tesla Cybertruck to their garage.
Perry took delivery of the futuristic pickup truck in April 2024, joining her other Tesla Model S in her collection.
The Tesla Cybertruck has been a celebrity favourite since the US electric pioneer began deliveries in late 2023. For a full breakdown of every A-list persona driving the pickup, visit Drive’s previous coverage here.
While the Tesla Cybertruck is only available in the US, the electric ute could be on the cards for Australia.
Thom Drew, Tesla Australia’s country director, previously told Drive “We are working pretty hard to get [Cybertruck] in right-hand drive. Obviously not confirmed just yet, but we’re working on it.”
Whether the US electric pioneer will develop a Cybertruck model that complies with Australia’s stringent Design Rules is another story, given the car has been recalled numerous times over safety issues.

Custom Mini Cooper
While Mini Coopers are already quirky in their own right, BMW decided to take it up a notch in 2009 when they debuted a ‘Katy Perry’ Cabriolet Edition.
While the singer didn’t technically own the hatch, fashion designers The Blonds (David and Phillipe Blond) derived the concept from Perry’s mid-2000s colourful aesthetic.
The Mini Cooper convertible was seen donning a hot pink and leopard-print exterior, while black and silver tassels can be seen hanging from the side mirrors.
The wild cat inspiration continued inside, where the dashboards were lined with fake black fur, and the floor mats were covered in black, glittery carpets.
The Mini Cooper was raffled off in a charity event dubbed Life Ball in Vienna, Italy, where proceeds went towards projects combatting HIV/AIDS.
Fisker Karma
In retrospect, it’s hard to imagine investing in any vehicle produced by Henrik Fisker.
But in 2014, Perry did the unthinkable and purchased five Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports cars for her assistants, with the pop star reportedly spending a total of $US500,000 ($AU788,332 in 2024).
Henrik Fisker’s namesake brand has been mired in controversy again and again, largely due to its models’ underwhelming and unreliable reputation.
As previously reported by Drive, approximately 2500 Karma models were produced between 2011 and 2012 before production eventually ceased due to lacklustre reviews and numerous recalls.
