The Jetour Dashing and X70 Plus SUVs have been officially launched in Indonesia, marking the start of sales for the Chery Group brand in the ASEAN country. This comes after the Jetour brand was introduced there at GIIAS 2024 in July, and a recent line-off ceremony – the cars are CKD locally assembled.
The Dashing is a five-seater that will compete in the B-SUV segment. Sized between a Toyota Corolla Cross and Honda CR-V, this Jetour has a Lamborghini Urus-style face and is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-four with 156 PS and 230 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In Indonesia, this ‘Performance Meets Style’ SUV comes in two variants – the Journey dan Inspira, priced at Rp 408.8 juta (RM115,506) and Rp 440.8 juta (RM124,547) respectively. These are introductory prices valid till the end of 2024, and early birds also enjoy three years of all-inclusive free service, 1,000 litres of petrol and two years of free insurance.
The X70 Plus is the larger of the duo, a seven-seater D-segment SUV that competes with the Proton X90 and group-mate Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. Under the hood is the same 1.5-litre turbo-four engine, which is also found in our Chery Omoda 5. But unlike the CVT-equipped Chery, the X70 Plus follows the Dashing in offering a six-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox.
This Jetour is also offered in two variants for Indonesia – the Rp 434.8 juta (RM122,832) Journey and the Rp 465.8 juta (RM131,590) Inspira. All Jetours in Indonesia are covered by a 10-year or one million km engine warranty, on top of a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty.
It’s the same pattern for Malaysia, where the Jetour brand was introduced to the public earlier this year at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. Then, the Dashing and X70 Plus were previewed, and we’re told that these two models will be launching locally ‘after Chinese New Year’. As CNY 2025 is in late January, Jetour’s SUVs could reach showrooms as soon as February 2025.
This was revealed to paultan.org by Jetour Auto International vice president Kevin Xu at the recent Jetour Global Travel+ Conference in Fuzhou, China. Xu also said that all Jetour products for Malaysia will be CKD locally assembled, including the Land Rover Defender-style T2 off-road SUV that is scheduled for a Q3 2025 introduction. The T1, with its slightly softer and more urban looking bodystyle, will come after the T2.
However, Jetour’s APAC boss declined to reveal the company’s local assembly partner (it won’t roll off Chery’s Shah Alam plant) as it is a listed company and protocols must be followed. Also, the X70 Plus will get a fresh name for our market, as Proton has already claimed the ‘X70’ name for its Geely Boyue-based SUV.
By the way, Jetour is a brand under the Chery umbrella, but it operates independently of Chery across the globe, and this will also be the case in Malaysia. Separate team, separate office, unlike Jaecoo Malaysia, which is closely linked to the mothership. This means that Chery’s Omoda 5 and Tiggo SUVs, as well as Jaecoo’s offerings, will be counted as rivals, along with Proton’s Geely SUVs and the Japanese incumbents.
