Jeff’s 850 GLE Owners/Maintenance Log | SwedeSpeed

August 12, 2024: Wheels OD: 217,483 Km AVG MPG: 26.9 Howdy y’all Couple minor additions:

  • Oil change at 215k
  • Decided to replace the stock speakers since they were falling apart and sounded terrible – figured I might as well replace the stereo while I was at it (ended up cutting into the floor).
  • Was hopping to make use of the fog switch since the wiring was already there – wrong.
  • Figured I may as well swap out for LED brake/signal/reverse/etc… lights. Shouldn’t have!

Oil Change Nothing crazy here – swapped in a fram and full synthetic. Speaker Change/Stereo Install Ordered speakers while I was away from the car so that they would arrive when I was home. Did my research on the sizing of the speakers, pulled the trigger. They all made it in/mounted, however some funny business did take place. I opt in for 4x 5.25″ kickers for the doors. Front doors fit like a dream. Rear doors could have been slightly bigger (probably). Got some 3.5 inch kickers for the dash, no major issues here. Got some 6″ x 9″ kickers for the rear. Not sure why I didn’t question the form claiming these would fit, as I had checked out the rear pillar speakers in the past and they are WAY smaller. There was no way to fit these in the pillar, so after a bit of fit checking, I decided on the floor above the wheel wells would be the best placement for them. I managed to get a rough outline of where they should be fitted, rerouted the speaker wire to the floor, and started making cuts. I’m not happy with the final install, but they work and “fit”. Unfortunately, one of the rears was blown on arrival 🙁 Fog Light Install I did a bit of digging on the ease of fog light installation since I had noticed in the summer that the wiring was already apparently in place and the button* was already in the dash. Ordered some hellas and dropped a couple holes in the front bumper for mounting. Wired them up. Hit the switch – nothing. After a bit of trouble shooting, determined it was something in the wiring, as the light lit up fine. After a bit more digging, determined it was the button. I did not realize I had a rear fog light, which was the button in question. Ordered a new button for the fogs, should be here soon. LED Swap Did a rockauto order for new exterior bulbs (LEDs for rear lights, halogen for front). While most worked fine, the signals did not. Should have seen this coming, but decided to give it a go. Swapped back to halogen for indicators. One of the brake light LEDs was unfortunately half burnt out upon arrival, so I placed an IPD order for full halogen to swap back. Other Items While putting in an order from IPD, I decided to opt in on a few other items:

  • Replacement headlight glass (one of mine has a hole in it)
  • Clear turn signals (purely aesthetic reasons)
  • Magnetic drain plug, filters, filter magnet, air filter
  • Seat Belt Button (front passenger button sticks)

I’ve still been on the hunt for new wheels – nothing yet!!!
