I’ve recently bought a 2020 Volvo XC40 Inscription imported directly from Japan market to Cyprus. As soon as I bought, I wanted to do my own configurations and made stuff work for me. However I realized that there are some differences between Japan and EU market Volvo cars. Few of these were:
- Navigation map was just showing the Japan
- Radio wasn’t able to go above 90.0 (as usual)
- Some units were not what we used to use (we mostly use L/100km for consumption but it was km/L for japan units etc)
- Also road sign detection was acting a bit weird, for example for 65 speed limit signs, it reads it as 60, probably there is no such 65 sign in japan and AI model was correcting it to 60.
One of the most important of these for me was Sat Nav. So I tried downloading a EU map and install it via an USB flash drive.
First I downloaded 2+GB North East EU map and tried it with following formats with 2 different USB drive (1 of them was new 3.2): exFAT, FAT32, NTFS etc.
No chance, the error was: “Map data could not be read”
Then I contacted with Volvo Turkey and they suggested me few more things, including downloading 56+GB whole EU master map and trying that, which I did but still no chance, the error was same.
Also for some reason the “map” button that normally other cars have in their “update center” wasn’t getting displayed for me, so I’d change my regions settings etc.
After a long search, I found out that I need to do EU convertion for Cars Market configurations which was needing me to download VDASH and find a cable to connect to car.
I bought a VOE cable and then with VDASH I managed to get into my car’s CEM to do the followings:
Service distance -> 10000 km
Unit settings -> Temp: deg. C, Clock: 24 h, Distance: km, Fuel Consumption: liter/km
radio -> EU
Navi maps region -> Europe
Language region -> Europe
System default language -> EN English
One small thing I realized, this VDASH program was showing my “main market” as already “EU/intl” but volvo was telling me that my main market was “Japan/intl”. Thus, since the VDASH was thinking I’m already in EU market, it didn’t apply main market change, since for the app, there was no real change.
After all these everything else above started to work well (I forgot to change road sign reading configs tho) except navigation map. I’m still unable to install EU maps, neither Partial nor whole 56GB of the master EU map. The error is same “map data could not be read”.
One thing I realized now, my “update center” displays me the “map” button for map updates but when I clicked, it’s an empty screen with to update and with no settings for region.
I’m suspecting this might stil have something to do with some configurations I missed but I’m wondering if there is anyone around that went thought this and knows the missing piece for the Map convertion from japan to EU?
Thanks a lot.
