During an early morning breakfast run the F-Type exhibited its first hiccup in the 15 months I have owned it. I turned the heat on–the outside temp was in the low 40s–but the vent on top of the center stack did not open.
The passenger cabin did get heat from other vents, but the main vent is on the top and it is supposed to automatically raise when the heat or AC is turned on and then lower when they are turned off. It did not work. I am now imagining a four-figure bill to have it fixed. Oh well, it is a Jaguar…

It seems as though WordPress has fixed the issues with “Related [Posts]” and the data as displayed on the Insights tab in the Stats dashboard. Better late than never?

I always thought the worst part of the first Trump administration was his man-crush on the evil Russian dictator. The latter is now threatening to use nuclear weapons if Ukraine uses long-range missiles against targets deep inside Russia.
I don’t want anyone to use nuclear weapons, but if Puck Futin is evil and/or stupid enough to do so, then maybe that would provide an opportunity to turn Moscow into ashes. Slava Ukraini!

Although Jerry Coyne writes about his recent disappointment with James Carville, noted Democratic Party strategist, something Carville is quoted as saying is right on the mark, in my opinion:
He says at the end [of a video interview] that the Democrats have been tarred for a long time by the party’s wokeness, and though Harris pivoted a bit towards the center, her party was still tarred with the “stench” of wokeness. As he says, “It’s gonna take more than one cycle to get this stench off of the Democratic Party, and it’s a STENCH of the highest order, let me tell you.”
Woke is a cult detached from reality and a belief “system” with which most Americans disagree. I believe that if someone other than Trump had been the Republican nominee, the result would have been even more lopsided in their favor.

This Why Evolution Is True (WEIT) post is about a far less serious topic: the discovery of the mummy of a juvenile saber-toothed cat found frozen in Siberia. As Jerry Coyne writes, “Mummies are rare because an animal has to die and then be permanently frozen in ice, and then later discovered. This is, as far as I know, the first mummy of a sabre-toothed cat, though skeletal remains are known.” Here is a picture from the WEIT piece.
I can hear some armchair scientists now, “We can clone these and bring these back into existence.” Actually, we can’t as any species of cat that might be able to be the “mother” would not be the same species.

Take a look at this screenshot from a CNBC piece about the US auto industry.
The US automobile industry sold 15.6 million units in 2023 and, at most, will see a 1%-2% increase for 2024. Higher interest rates are still reducing demand for new autos, but as the price of used cars has seen a real decline they are becoming even more popular than the 75% share of the US auto market they usually have.
I do think some potential consumers are turned off by the sameness of offerings. As I have often written, almost no new vehicles are of interest to me and I cannot imagine that I am alone in that view. Why don’t any American companies build a car like this?
This is the Cadillac Elmiraj concept car that was introduced in 2013 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Where do I sign up?!
