- 1- Its missing several torque specs that cannot be found elsewhere. Specifically, its missing the torque for the oil and water pump bolts.
- 2 – the video has you reusing cam sprocket bolts, while VIDA indicates are one time use only. I found this particularly interesting since no other bolts are recommended for replacement and VIDA even says you can reuse the belt if its in good shape.
- 3 – There is a vacuum pump and adapter bracket on the back side of the exhaust cam that is not mentioned in the video. The kit they offer only has one of the two gaskets needed when removing this pump.
- 4 – There is a slight trick to reinstalling the belt. Having all three pulleys on the timing mark makes it very hard to get the belt seated correctly. I kept finding myself a 1/2 tooth off. You have to back the crank sprocket up ever so slightly to get a bit of slack on the front side, install the belt then bring the crank back to TDC mark.
- 5 – Do not touch the oil pump unless it is leaking. I just followed the video and pulled the pump. After fighting the crank seal to get it over the stub, destroying said seal and finding I had also damaged the pump housing seal I got it right. Afterwards, I found that on this motor, the pump very rarely leaks and its the general rule at most dealers do not mess with it unless you need to. I also found many forum posts on here and Matthews that said the same. Having to get a new set of gaskets killed a whole weekend since only the dealer carries parts for this car. None of the regular parts places (Autozone, Advanced, NAPA, O’Reily’s) keep stock on hand for these cars.
- 6-Get a helper to reinstall the accessory belt. It is so ridiculously easy to shear off the tab to adjust the tensioner. You cannot put the slightest bit of angle on that torx bit, which is almost impossible to avoid doing it by yourself. The tool that FCP sells for removing the belt is absolutely useless on this car. You cannot get the right angle even with the motor mount and coolant tank removed.
VIDA set me back $31 for 3 days access. I was able to print out all of the steps to get this car back together, which was nice as I didn’t get to finish the job before the subscription was up. I will never do another big job on any Volvo without gaining access to VIDA. It is the only way to get comprehensive instructions. Good luck and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
