Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift Will Get New Transmission, Ditches DCT

Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift Will Get New Transmission, Ditches DCT

Posted on July 21, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Hyundai Santa Fe Facelift Will Get New Transmission, Ditches DCT

The facelifted Hyundai Santa Fe, expected to debut in late 2026 or early 2027, won’t just be about a new look—it will bring a critical mechanical upgrade. Hyundai USA confirmed to MotorTrend that all 2.5-liter turbocharged Santa Fe models will abandon the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) in favor of a conventional torque-converter automatic transmission.

This change will also apply to the Santa Cruz compact pickup, which shares the same powertrain. Hyundai states the new automatic “provides ideal overall drivability,” but the decision closely follows years of DCT-related warranty claims, recalls, and consumer complaints.

Why the Change Matters

Hyundai’s DCT was intended to deliver faster shifts and better efficiency but has instead been a pain point for owners due to:

  • Jerky low-speed performance in stop-and-go driving.
  • Clunky gear changes and inconsistent power delivery.
  • Warranty issues and recalls, often requiring full transmission replacements and lengthy repair times.

While automakers like Volkswagen and Porsche have mastered dual-clutch systems, Hyundai’s version struggled with refinement. By switching to a traditional automatic, Hyundai addresses both customer satisfaction and long-term reliability concerns.

Styling and Feature Updates Coming With the Facelift

The upcoming facelifted Santa Fe will also showcase updated styling, building on the current generation’s rugged, Land Rover-inspired design:

  • A refreshed front fascia with side-mounted DRLs and a four-bar grille.
  • Slimmer center body panels and two-tone horizontal molding for a wider stance.
  • At the rear, vertical taillights with a horizontal brake light bar, a relocated license plate to the tailgate, and a high-gloss black trim panel for contrast.
  • A matte-finished skid plate and a cleaner bumper design for a more SUV-like look.

The 2.5-liter turbo engine will continue alongside the 1.6-liter turbo hybrid, the latter retaining its smooth six-speed automatic.

Release Window

  • The facelifted Hyundai Santa Fe is projected to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027.
  • Models with the new torque-converter automatic transmission will debut at launch, marking the end of the DCT in Santa Fe and Santa Cruz models.

What This Means for Buyers

For years, the Santa Fe’s dual-clutch transmission was its biggest drawback, despite strong styling, value, and comfort. By switching to a torque-converter automatic, Hyundai is set to deliver a more refined driving experience while restoring buyer confidence after repeated transmission-related issues.

The 2027 Santa Fe, with its updated design and smoother drivetrain, is positioned to become a top contender in the midsize SUV market.es are poised to improve both the aesthetic appeal and reliability of one of Hyundai’s key SUVs, reassuring current and future owners alike.
