Hyundai Recalls Select 2025 IONIQ 5 Models in the U.S. Over Battery Busbar Issue

Posted on July 31, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Hyundai Recalls Select 2025 IONIQ 5 Models in the U.S. Over Battery Busbar Issue

Hyundai has issued a limited recall for a small number of 2025 IONIQ 5 electric vehicles (EVs) sold in the United States after discovering a potential short circuit risk involving the battery pack’s busbar—a critical metal component that connects individual cells within the EV’s battery system.

Issue Identified During Routine Inspection

The problem was uncovered during a standard battery pack inspection. According to Hyundai, the issue stems from a defective torque controller provided by the battery system assembly vendor. This component may have led to improper fastening of the busbars in a limited number of vehicles, potentially increasing the risk of a short circuit.

No Reported Incidents or Fires

Importantly, Hyundai confirmed that no incidents, injuries, or fires related to the issue have been reported. The recall is described as purely precautionary and affects only 10 vehicles nationwide.

Recall Scope: What Owners Need to Know

  • Model: 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5
  • Region: United States
  • Units Affected: 10 vehicles
  • Issue: Improperly fastened busbars due to torque controller defect
  • Risk: Potential short circuit (no incidents reported)

Hyundai is expected to notify affected owners directly and offer a free inspection and repair at authorized dealerships. The automaker has emphasized its commitment to quality control and proactive safety measures in the growing EV market.

Hyundai’s Continued EV Safety Commitment

As Hyundai continues to expand its all-electric IONIQ lineup, including the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, this small-scale recall highlights the brand’s commitment to rigorous safety standards and transparency—especially in the competitive and fast-evolving electric vehicle segment.

For the latest updates and VIN lookup, customers can visit Hyundai’s official recall site or contact their local Hyundai dealer.
