India’s a huge market for Hyundai – so much so that it gets many localised models – but this is still a surprise, even though over 1.1 million Cretas have been sold there to date. Say namaste to the Hyundai Creta Electric, Hyundai Motor India Limited‘s first localised EV SUV, based on the 2024 SU2i facelift.
There will be four variants and two battery options – 42 and 51.4 kWh, yielding Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)-certified ranges of 390 and 473 km respectively. Autocar India says that the smaller battery feeds a 135 PS motor and the bigger, 171 PS. The latter does 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
Charge the smaller battery at 11 kW AC and you’ll go from 10-100% in four hours, while DC charging (max rate undisclosed) yields 10-80% in 58 minutes for both batteries.
There’s quite a bit of tech – how about an NFC digital key for smartphone and smartwatch access, Ioniq-style column gear selector, i-Pedal one-pedal driving and vehicle-to-load (V2L) both inside (under the rear bench) and outside?
It’s got the same headlamps and double-upside-down-L-shaped LED DRLs as the 2024 SU2i facelift, but the grille is now blocked off by pixelated elements. The Hyundai logo sits on the nose-mounted charging flap, and there are active air flaps below which open for cooling and close for aerodynamics. Also ‘aero’ are the 17-inch alloys, which are wrapped in low-rolling resistance rubber.
Thanks to interior photos posted by Autocar India, we see that the Creta Electric retains the ICE model’s dashboard, twin 10.25-inch screens and auto-dimming rear-view mirror, amongst others.
What’s new are the steering wheel (in place of the Hyundai logo is what looks like an LED strip – does this show charging status?), centre console and the aforementioned Ioniq-style column gear selector.
Safety kit includes lane keep assist, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring and a 360 camera, Autocar India reports.
All should be revealed on January 17, when the Hyundai Creta Electric launches in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 to worry the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVitara.
