How Two Sisters Are Redefining Fashion for People with Disabilities

How Two Sisters Are Redefining Fashion for People with Disabilities

We didn’t set out to start a clothing company—we simply saw a need that wouldn’t go away.

My twin sister and I grew up believing that clothes should make you feel like yourself. Comfortable, confident, and ready to take on the day. But when we looked around at what was available for people with disabilities—especially adaptive options—it often felt like function came at the cost of dignity or style.

That didn’t sit right with us.

We watched loved ones and community members struggle with clothing. We saw how frustrating buttons, stiff fabrics, and limited options could be. We knew there had to be a better way—and we wanted to create it.

So we did.

We started EQL Threads with one mission: to make dressing easier, more comfortable, and empowering. We focused on thoughtful details—like magnetic closures and easy snaps—paired with super soft, stretchy fabric that feels as good as it looks. We wanted our customers to know that their clothing was made for them, with care, intention, and respect.

We’re not from the fashion world. I’ve taught piano for over 30 years, and my sister is an occupational therapist. But that’s what makes our work personal. We understand routines, challenges, and the emotional weight that comes with needing help for everyday tasks. We believe in preserving independence and confidence, and we know clothing plays a part in that.

Starting a business has stretched us in every way possible. It’s taught us to listen harder, think smarter, and keep going even when it’s uncomfortable (hello, endless learning curves). But when we hear from someone who says, “I finally feel seen,” we remember why we’re doing this.

We’re still learning. Still evolving. But one thing stays the same: we want to be a solution. Not just a clothing brand, but a team you can count on.

Because everyone deserves clothes that work for them.

Sandy and Candy, the founders of EQL Threads, are on a mission to revolutionize adaptive clothing. Drawing from their extensive backgrounds in occupational therapy, teaching, and the fashion business, they’ve created a line of clothing that blends innovation with comfort, empowering individuals to live confidently and independently. With a focus on high-quality, USA-made pieces featuring unique closures like flexible magnets and magnetic zippers, EQL Threads is designed to make dressing easier and life more fulfilling.
