HondaTrue Certified

The top tier of Honda’s certified pre-owned programs, HondaTrue Certified, makes us wonder why anyone would buy a new Honda when purchasing a lightly used model comes with such a great package of benefits.

HondaTrue Certified used cars have passed a 182-point inspection. They have been in service for more than 12 months and have more than 12,000 miles on the odometer, but they have accumulated fewer than 80,000 miles in their first five years.

Not only that, the HondaTrue Certified cars come with a limited warranty that runs two years from the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or 100,000 miles total. The Certified powertrain warranty lasts seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the original sale, boosting the new powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles. Dealers will change the oil in a HondaTrue Certified vehicle up to two times during the first year or 12,000 miles of ownership (whichever comes first).

HondaTrue Certified EV

With the Honda Prologue electric vehicle (EV) entering its second model year, HondaTrue Certified created a separate tier for the HondaTrue Certified EV in 2025. Because of the electric SUV’s relative newness, CPO shoppers should find Prologue models with plenty of years remaining from the original warranty.

Having fewer moving parts than a traditional gas-powered vehicle means pre-owned Honda EVs need only pass a 167-point inspection to qualify as certified. These vehicles would also need to be from the 2024 or newer model years and have fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer.

Every HondaTrue Certified EV comes with a limited warranty that runs for two years from the expiration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or 86,000 total miles. Instead of a powertrain warranty, the limited warranty continues to cover the high-voltage battery for up to eight years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the original sale date.

Obviously, no free oil changes needed for a HondaTrue Certified EV, but buyers are eligible for one electric drive unit fluid change (subject to severe service at 45,000 miles), plus four tire rotations and the replacement, as needed, of up to four pairs of windshield wipers during the complimentary complimentary service period of the first two years or 24,000 miles of CPO ownership.

HondaTrue Used

Though not technically a certified pre-owned program, the HondaTrue Used category includes Honda vehicles from model years 2015 to 2025 with no mileage cap. They receive a 100-day or 5,000-mile limited and powertrain warranty and one complimentary oil change within the first year of ownership.

Shared Benefits

The HondaTrue vehicles all get Roadside Assistance (two years/100,000 total miles for Certified; two years/86,000 total miles for EV; one year/12,000 new miles for Used, whichever happens first). Honda has a 3-day exchange policy for HondaTrue vehicles, allowing buyers to exchange a car in the same condition it was sold as long as they added fewer than 300 new miles to the odometer. The company includes trip interruption and concierge service during the limited warranty, and there’s a $0 deductible for covered repairs. SiriusXM offers a 90-day free trial of its services with a HondaTrue purchase.
