In what’s a surprising twist for many, Honda’s all-electric Prologue SUV has emerged as General Motors’ top-selling electric vehicle, despite bearing the Honda badge. In November alone, Honda sold 6,823 units of the Prologue, bringing the total to 25,132 since its April debut. This success is particularly noteworthy given that the Prologue shares its underpinnings with GM’s Chevrolet Blazer EV, both built on GM’s Ultium battery platform.

The Connectivity Edge

A significant factor contributing to the Prologue’s popularity may be its inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda has equipped the Prologue with these features, along with Google built-in, offering seamless smartphone integration.

In contrast, GM has opted to exclude Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its new electric models, including the Blazer EV, aiming to develop its own integrated infotainment system.

Consumer Preferences

The absence of familiar smartphone interfaces in GM’s EVs has sparked controversy among customers, leading some to seek aftermarket solutions to restore these functionalities.

This decision may have inadvertently driven consumers toward alternatives like the Prologue, which offers the connectivity features they desire.

Brand Trust and User Experience

Beyond connectivity, Honda’s reputation for reliability and user-friendly design plays a crucial role. The Prologue’s success suggests that consumers value a harmonious blend of advanced technology and intuitive interfaces, elements that Honda has effectively delivered.

GM’s strategy to develop a proprietary infotainment system, while ambitious, appears to be at odds with consumer expectations for seamless smartphone integration. This misalignment could be contributing to the Prologue’s unexpected dominance over GM’s own EV offerings.

The Honda Prologue’s ascendancy as GM’s best-selling EV reiterates the importance of aligning vehicle features with consumer preferences. By offering comprehensive connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Honda has tapped into a critical market demand, positioning the Prologue as a compelling choice in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
