Honda Civic Review (2025)

Posted on July 15, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Honda Civic Review (2025)

Read Caroline’s Honda Civic review for everything you need to know about buying Honda’s hybrid hatchback in Ireland in 2025.

The Honda Civic has been a stalwart of Irish roads for decades. Now in its eleventh generation, the Civic returned as a hybrid in 2022.

Priced at €48,995, the Civic is now in a different arena on price to what it once was. But is it just better than everything else?

Let’s take a closer look.

Design

The Civic has evolved once again and irons out some of the quirky edges of the previous car. It looks more refined and elegant, giving off genuine ‘big car’ vibes. It stays true to its sporty DNA with a low-slung stance and sleek roofline. The wheelbase is 35mm longer than the previous one, but with a 20mm shorter rear overhang and reduced overall height for a sportier look.

In Ireland it’s offered in one trim line for now called Advance with 18-inch, diamond-cut alloy wheels as standard.

There are a total of five colours to choose from including Sonic Grey Pearl, Premium Crystal Red and Premium Crystal Blue pearlescent finishes, as well as Crystal Black and Platinum White metallics.

Honda Civic Interior

The Civic has grown-up inside too. There’s been a marked increased in material quality, while the design gives those same ‘big car’ vibes as the exterior. The fit and finish is typical Honda – excellent. The digital tech is functional and not distracting, with a plethora of tactile dials and switches to interact with.

The Civic is not a cheap car but nor is the standard specification. Features include a panoramic glass roof, leather upholstery, Bose stereo, heated front seats with power adjustment and lumbar support, heated steering wheel, reversing camera, wireless smartphone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay/wired Android Auto. All you could ever need.

Practicality

The Honda Civic remains a strong contender in the compact hatchback segment when it comes to everyday usability. There’s loads of interior space, with ample legroom in the back, making it comfortable for adult passengers on the two outer seats. But headroom feels not so generous because of the sloping roof.

Separate climate vents add to the comfort for rear seat passengers, as does a centre armrest. There are also Isofix mounts on the two outer seats for child seats. Being quite a low-slung hatchback, you do find yourself leaning in more to get in than what you would in an equivalent SUV like the Honda ZR-V.

Boot space in the Civic Hybrid is not quite as big as compared to the previous generation, now sitting at 404 litres due to the hybrid battery and Bose stereo. However, it’s still a well-shaped and practical boot, aided by now a wider aperture for easier loading. The rear seats split-fold 60:40, offering added flexibility for carrying longer items.

Driving the Honda Civic Hybrid

Honda markets the new Civic as the “driver’s hybrid” and it lives up to the claim. Building on its long-standing reputation for sharp handling, the latest Civic delivers impressive poise and composure thanks to chassis, steering and suspension tweaks. A longer wheelbase and wider rear track enhance cornering stability, while precise steering feedback and a planted ride boost driver engagement.

The Civic’s new full-hybrid powertrain brings it right up to date with demand for hybrid cars in Ireland. It combines a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two compact electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, producing a healthy 184hp and 315Nm of torque. Acceleration is smooth and brisk (0–100 km/h in 8.1 seconds), with seamless transitions between EV, hybrid and engine modes. Notably, the power delivery is quiet and refined, free from the usual CVT-drone, even under hard acceleration. When you’re really pushing on, Honda has engineered the sensation of real gear changes. So if you enjoyed the big petrol engined cars of old, you’ll like this one too.

You can tailor the driving experience a bit more using four selectable drive modes – Normal, Sport, Eco, and Individual. Sport mode sharpens response, Eco prioritises efficiency, and Individual lets you customise settings like throttle response and steering feel. Paddle shifters also control regenerative braking for a more engaging drive.

What is the fuel economy of the Honda Civic Hybrid?

While you’re having all this fun behind the wheel, is the Civic Hybrid actually efficient after all? Honda rates fuel economy for this model as low as 5.0 litres per 100 kilometres, which is achievable in real world driving. Motor tax is €190 per year.

Honda Civic Price

In Ireland the Honda Civic Hybrid is offered in just one trim level for now called the Advance. It retails from €48,995. Rivals include the likes of the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, as well as upmarket versions of the Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf.

Is the Honda Civic a good car to buy?

The Honda Civic feels quite unique in today’s market. Yes it’s a hybrid and there’s lots of those on sale now. But there’s no real hybrid rival to the Civic that feels so well-engineered to be such a good driver’s car, while ticking the fuel efficiency box too.

With its sleek, grown-up design and refined interior, the new Civic gives off serious big car vibes. Yet it still honours its sporty DNA with a low-slung stance and sharp handling.

The market for hatchbacks like the Civic is nothing compared to the grá Irish buyers have for SUVs and crossovers right now. But if that’s not your thing and you want one of the best hybrid cars on sale, then the Civic will be right up your street.
