Hennessey introduces new Super Venom Mustang

Those sad that the United States gets all the best Mustangs denied to us best look away now. Following Shelby’s resurrection of the GT350 badge with up to 810hp, Hennessey has ramped things up a notch: this is the 860hp Super Venom Mustang.

Like the Shelby, that huge power gain – 70 per cent over the stock output of a US 5.0-litre GT – has been achieved predominantly through a supercharger for the Coyote V8. Additionally, the Super Venom gets better fuelling with upgraded injectors and pump for a greedier engine, plus higher flow induction to match the air appetite and a Hennessey ECU to manage it all. The power (850bhp imperial, at 7,250rpm) and 650lb ft of torque means this Mustang is capable of 3.2 seconds to 60mph and 10.9 seconds through the quarter mile at 133mph. That’s with the 10-speed auto, though the six-speed manual is also offered.

More than just a monster V8, however, the Super Venom gets a bespoke carbon aerokit designed and developed by Hennessey. It comprises the chunky goose-neck rear wing, kerb scraping front splitter, functional slats in the front wings, side skirts, bonnet vents and boot lid. It’s a lotta carbon fibre, that’s for sure. Hennessey makes no claims of weight saving however, even with new 20-inch wheels as well.

Hennessey will make 91 Mustangs to Super Venom spec, as that was the year the company was founded, all offered with a ‘91 Icon Livery in black, silver or red. The interior gets new leather, suede and badging, including each build’s individual serial number.

Nathan Malinick, Hennessey Design Director, said: “We worked hard to celebrate the esteemed Mustang bloodline with the design of our Super Venom. With a unique interior and track-focused enhancements outside we recognize the iconic muscle car’s sporting heritage alongside that of Hennessey Performance.”

Orders for the Super Venom are open now (in the US at least) with prices from $149,950 for a GT or $163,950 for an 860hp Dark Horse. The Hennessey is available through a selection of Ford dealers in the States, with both a Blue Oval warranty retained and a three-year Hennessey one added on top. Some way to arrive (and leave) a Cars & Coffee, that’s for sure…
