Gripe thread, or, help – don’t want to ditch it. | SwedeSpeed

I’ve had my T5M for 15 years now. It immediately filled the void that formed when my T-Bird SC manual was stolen and stripped that Japanese cars just couldn’t fill.

Currently 180K, mechanically sound, but really starting to make me feel I drive a hoopty, because the list is long. I feel overwhelmed so I would like some encouragement, tips/tricks/hints or leads for cost effective fixes.

CCM: needs replacement. The fan knob doesn’t always respond, the bulbs burned out and the tabs have broken so it no longer sits tight in the center stack and against the console.

DIM: just blew out last month. All important parts of the dash work, but the DIM display is just a backlight and a rare display of scrambled characters. I have a watch dial 07 cluster, but obviously, a changeout = inaccurate mileage, plus the donor was an AT, so unsure about the other screen on the right side.

Washer pump: also went this summer but didn’t notice until we went 3 weeks w/o rain. Add to this that the driver’s wiper lifts, so the spring is worn, and I probably should replace both.

Rear seatbacks: The doors for the cubbies behind that holds the pet netting both are floppy, and rattle like crazy when in neutral and stopped. Considering using packing tape, but that is tacky. I think this started when I found a JY XC with a pet net and I tried to extract it, but was unsuccessful. I went home and looked inside my seats and just releasing the doors did something.

Front seats – all 4 leather covers are beyond repair. I haven’t seen good JY seats ever, and new leather is $$$$. IDK how it happened. I conditioned them 3-4x/year in AZ, but when I got to NWFL, the whole car underwent changes incl the leather.

Vents: I think the OP chain-smoked, hot-box style in the car for 6 straight years. In AZ, the meager vent cleaning I could do was satisfactory, but here, a couple days w/o using the A/C and the humid vents reanimate the whole experience again until they dry out again.

Axle ping: LF, stubborn. Tried to silence by threadlocking the axle bolt into the axle and lubricating the washer where it seats against the hub, but it only reduced the occurrence and lowered the volume a bit.

Window clips: I already broke and replaced the RF window clips and it resulted in a new problem where when humid, the window inside surface grabs the inside weatherstripping up front near the mirror and pulls the weatherstripping down and in with it, making the window unusable. Now the LR window has a broken clip, and I have lost confidence in a trouble-free fix. Add to that:

RR door speaker dead. So obviously I can swap it, or I can upgrade it all, but I will have to remove and replace the door card, and see above.

Headliner: Not severe yet, but I can see that it may start detaching from the foam around the windshield soon. The moonroof cover already has started to float, cutting down my use severely, and I don’t think it can be fixed without pulling the whole headliner.

Console: I installed an 05+ console with the cool roller door, but the sliver of console plastic between the roller door and the e-brake boot is bowed and I don’t think I saw a good fix. That started to work the e-brake boot, and the plastic ring is borken into about 10 pieces. I have 2 JY boots, but both are broken in at least one place, and the only fix I can think of is to sister it with metal. Ideas??? I could go back to the other console, but the door and the LED…

I really don’t want to replace, but its not “nice” at all anymore. Something I just am not used to. Anyone got any cheats for me?
