Without much fanfare, Genesis has officially discontinued the G80 Electrified for the 2025 model year, confirming the move after the model was quietly scrubbed from the brand’s U.S. website. While the G80 name lives on with its traditional gas-powered variant, its electric counterpart won’t be part of the lineup next year, and that’s a tough loss for fans of sleek, battery-powered sedans.

The G80 Electrified always had an uphill battle. Unlike EVs built from the ground up on dedicated platforms, the G80’s electric version was a conversion of the existing gas-powered model. But in typical Hyundai Motor Group fashion, Genesis managed to make it work impressively well. With 365 horsepower and up to 282 miles of range from its 87.2-kWh battery, the G80 Electrified delivered a driving experience that felt premium and polished, not compromised. In fact, it felt more refined than some purpose-built EVs, thanks to its near-silent operation and the inherent comfort of the G80’s chassis.

But ultimately, that refinement wasn’t enough to sway many buyers. Large electric sedans just aren’t gaining traction in the U.S. right now, and the G80 Electrified’s low visibility and limited availability didn’t help. Genesis hasn’t shared official sales numbers for the electric version, but with just over 4,000 gas-powered G80s sold in the U.S. last year, it’s safe to assume the electrified model represented a small slice of that already modest pie.

Pricing and future policy uncertainty may have also played a role in its demise. Genesis builds the G80 Electrified in South Korea, and if the proposed 15% tariff on Korean imports becomes a reality under a second Trump administration, that could significantly increase the car’s cost. Add in the broader slowdown in EV adoption, and the business case for keeping the G80 Electrified in the U.S. starts to unravel.

It’s also unclear if the updated version of the car, a longer-wheelbase, more luxurious facelifted G80 Electrified, will ever make it to American soil. Genesis says it has no additional details to share about that model’s future here. For now, it looks like buyers hoping to get behind the wheel of a new G80 EV will have to act quickly.

Some dealership inventory still exists, with 2025 G80 Electrified units available at select Genesis retailers across the country. But with production now halted for the U.S. market, those vehicles are likely the last of their kind. If you’ve been eyeing one, this might be your final chance.

The loss of the G80 Electrified stings a bit more considering Genesis once declared its intent to become a fully electric brand within a decade. While its SUV-focused EV lineup continues to grow, this sedan’s quiet exit marks a reminder that even strong products can disappear when the market isn’t ready.
