Genesis GV80 Hybrid Spotted for the First Time

Genesis GV80 Hybrid Spotted for the First Time

Posted on July 31, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Genesis GV80 Hybrid Spotted for the First Time

We recently shared that Genesis’ first hybrid model will be the GV80 Hybrid. Today, thanks to our colleagues at ShortsCar, we’re excited to bring you the first sightings of Genesis’ first-ever hybrid vehicle, which is set to debut in September 2026. Hyundai’s R&D team is already actively testing the GV80 Hybrid.

A Hybrid Future for Genesis: GV80 and GV80 Coupe

Both the Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe will be the first in the lineup to feature the new hybrid system. These models will integrate a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine powering the rear wheels (pictured below), paired with a hybrid setup based on Hyundai’s new P1 + P2 parallel structure.

How the New Hybrid System Works

Hyundai’s innovative architecture combines two electric motors:

  • The P1 motor, directly connected to the engine, optimizes fuel consumption.
  • The P2 motor assists with driving force, enhancing overall fuel efficiency and performance.

Fuel Efficiency: Up to 31.8 MPG and 671 Miles on a Single Tank

To estimate the new Hybrid’s fuel economy, we can draw comparisons to the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, which demonstrated a 45% improvement over its gasoline version.

GV80 Hybrid (19-inch wheels):

  • Expected fuel efficiency: 13.5 km/L ≈ 7.4 L/100 km ≈31.8 mpg (US)
  • Fuel tank capacity: 80 liters
  • Estimated driving range: 1,080 km ≈ 671 miles

GV80 Coupe Hybrid (20-inch wheels):

  • Expected fuel efficiency: 11.9 km/L ≈ 8.4 L/100 km ≈ 28.0 mpg (US)
  • Fuel tank capacity: 80 liters
  • Estimated driving range: 952 km ≈ 592 miles

With this level of efficiency, both models offer long-distance driving capabilities with fewer fuel stops—ideal for luxury SUV buyers prioritizing performance and economy.

Power Output: Estimated 362 HP with Enhanced Torque

The hybrid system doesn’t just improve efficiency—it boosts performance as well. The current GV80 2.5 Turbo engine specs:

  • 304 horsepower
  • 43.0 kgf·m torque

With the hybrid system’s expected 19% power gain:

  • Estimated output: ~362 horsepower
  • Estimated torque: ~46.9 kgf·m

This means the GV80 Hybrid will not only go farther but accelerate faster and handle better than its gasoline counterpart.

High-Tech Features Inspired by EVs

Thanks to its high-voltage hybrid battery it will support electric-vehicle-style features such as:

  • Stay Mode: Keeps air conditioning and multimedia running without the engine, perfect for resting inside the vehicle.
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): Provides up to 3.6 kW of power output to run appliances, tools, or electronics—ideal for camping or emergencies.

Release Timeline

Genesis plans to release the GV80 Hybrid and GV80 Coupe Hybrid in Q3 2026, followed by the G80 Hybrid in Q4 2026. These models reflect Hyundai’s growing commitment to luxury, performance, and eco-conscious innovation.
