Ford Salutes the Fox Body With Retro Mustang Package

Ford Salutes the Fox Body With Retro Mustang Package

Posted on June 9, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Ford Salutes the Fox Body With Retro Mustang Package

  • Ford will offer a new FX Package on the 2026 Mustang
  • It’s inspired by the boxy Fox Body Mustangs built from 1979 to 1993

We’re here to tell ya ‘little story ‘bout a 5.0 and how all things are forgiven in time, even that. Vanilla Ice is back in music, and Ford is celebrating, not apologizing for, the Fox Body Mustang.

For 2026, Ford will introduce a retro-inspired design package for its muscle car. There’s nothing new about that. Mustang designers have been using the first-generation pony car as their muse since Ford took it retro for its 1994, fourth-generation redesign.

What’s new here? The company is celebrating the one before that.

The Fox Body Mustang

  • The Fox Body was the fourth generation Mustang, and the most divisive one

The Mustang has been through a lot across six decades.

Almost everyone agrees that the original, 1965 first-generation Mustang is an automotive legend and a classic beauty. Almost everyone agrees that the 1974 second generation was a mistake best forgotten.

Arguments start with the third generation. Sold from the 1979 to 1993 model years, the Fox Body Mustang had Reagan-era boxy lines and boxy headlights. It reclaimed some of the original’s performance glory, leaving behind the wheezy engines of the malaise-era Mustang II.

It also reclaimed space in culture, appearing as an object of desire in movies and music videos in a way the second generation never did.

But when Ford finally redesigned the ‘Stang for its fourth generation, the company left all cues from the Fox Body behind. The 1994 redesign brought back styling cues from the 1960s original. Ford has never stopped doing that.

The Fox Body has been memory holed. Until now.

The Package That Celebrates It

  • The FX package brings back a very 1990s color — teal
  • White painted wheels and rear-window decals complete the look

The Mustang FX Package isn’t a new design with a body of angles and a CD player with an En Vogue disc in it. It’s just an appearance package. Ford hasn’t revealed pricing.

But, Ford says, it “blends vintage styling cues with modern execution to show how Mustang can highlight its legacy while still looking toward the future.”

That includes a very Miami Vice shade of teal, newly available. It’s 2026, so Ford calls it “Adriatic Blue Metallic.” But you know a vintage Charlotte Hornets color scheme when you see one.

Buyers can choose from two wheel designs, both painted gloss white. One leans toward modern, with the same 5-spoke design as other 2026 Mustangs, but painted like you’re just starting to learn who Bill Clinton is. The other “draws inspiration from iconic Fox Body designs,” Ford says.

The same white lines badges on the outside and, if you opt for the Performance Package, the “nostrils” beside the grille.

Ford has also brought back window lettering. Many of those Fox Body designs wore a Mustang word mark directly on the rear glass. “That same touch now appears on the rear window of coupe models with the Mustang FX Package,” Ford says.

Inside, plaid seat inserts echo 1980s designs, while Ford used a 1980s-inspired font for badges inside.

Ford will offer the package only on the Mustang GT Premium – yes, the one with the 5.0 – as a coupe or a convertible with either available transmission.
