Ford’s wave of recalls in 2025 continues, with the company now issuing a fresh recall for more than 312,000 vehicles due to a software-related issue in the electronic brake booster system. This latest recall affects several key models from the 2025 lineup, including the Ford F-150, Expedition, Bronco, and Ranger, as well as the Lincoln Navigator.

The bulk of the recall affects the 2025 Ford F-150, America’s best-selling vehicle, which makes up 217,969 of the 312,120 vehicles involved. The rest of the affected vehicles are split among the other SUV and truck models, all built with the same electronic brake booster (EBB) module that’s now being flagged as a safety risk.

So what’s the problem? According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the EBB module in these vehicles can enter a “faulted state” during normal driving or while advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) are engaged. When this happens, the system cuts off brake boost entirely until the ignition is cycled—meaning drivers are left with significantly reduced braking assistance until they restart the vehicle.

The issue isn’t mechanical, but electrical. Ford says that the problem stems from “normal but infrequent voltage disturbances.” These are momentary drops and spikes in electrical current that can cause the EBB motor to power off. If this happens, drivers will likely notice a heavier brake pedal, more travel when pressing the brakes, and warning lights flashing across the dash—including alerts for the ABS, electronic stability control, and braking system.

As of mid-July, Ford reported 37 warranty claims linked to this problem and one alleged low-speed crash. Fortunately, no injuries or fires have been connected to the issue so far.

The fix? Thankfully, it’s relatively simple. Ford will address the fault with a software update for the EBB module. That update will be delivered over-the-air (OTA) starting in August, allowing many owners to complete the repair without ever stepping foot in a dealership. Those who prefer—or require—in-person service will also be able to get the update installed at their local Ford or Lincoln dealer.

Dealers will begin receiving official notice of the recall on August 11, while owners will start getting mailed notifications around August 25. In the meantime, those who believe their vehicle may be affected can check their VIN using the NHTSA recall lookup tool.

While this latest recall is part of a larger trend for Ford in 2025—a year that’s already seen the automaker hit nearly 100 recalls—it’s also a reminder of how vehicle safety and connectivity are evolving. A fault that once may have required physical part replacements can now be resolved with a software patch, and owners benefit from quicker fixes without the usual hassle.

Still, it’s another headline Ford likely didn’t want, especially with new 2025 models just arriving on dealer lots. For now, the company is leaning on transparency and speed to keep customers safe and to limit the impact of what’s become an unfortunately routine part of the automotive landscape.
