Ford Everest throws up sales roadblock to Toyota Prado’s quest for success

Ford Everest throws up sales roadblock to Toyota Prado’s quest for success

Posted on May 21, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on Ford Everest throws up sales roadblock to Toyota Prado’s quest for success

After months of strong sales since the introduction of a new-generation model, the Toyota Prado has slipped behind the Ford Everest in the April sales race.

Australia’s new car sales race saw a minor upset in the Large SUV Under $80K class, with the Ford Everest only just edging out the popular Toyota Lancruiser.

Ford’s lead is only minor though, which at 2234 units sold for April 2025 surpassed the Prado’s monthly tally by just one vehicle.

Prado’s 2024 sales were soft in 2024, with the traditional segment-leader stuck between the run-out of the outgoing model and delayed introduction of the current generation.

Since November 2024, when the 250-Series Prado went on sale in Australia, it has enjoyed a monthly sales lead over the Ford Everest, which has held the second-spot for the segment each month.

With the Prado’s hiatus for much of 2024, the new model’s cumulative 2025 sales to the end of April are at more than three-times the tally for this time last year, with 10,674 sales for far.

By the end of April 2024 Toyota had recorded only 3382 sales.

The pent-up demand for the new model has kept sales strong, with Toyota working to fill orders for the all-new Prado.

Ford has added limited-edition variants including a second-run of the Everest Wildtrak and a more off-road focused Everest Tremor to maintain interest in its model, which has been on sale in Australia since late 2022.

Despite the roll-out of end of financial year offers on other vehicles in the Ford range, the Everest does not feature clearance pricing, although a pre-paid servicing offer is available. Toyota has also yet to announce EOFY deals on any vehicles on its range apart from the electric bZ4X.

While Ford has claimed a narrow victory for monthly sales in April, the cumulative figures show a very different story with 7220 Everests sold so far in 2025, against Toyota’s 10,674 Prados.

Overall sales in the Large SUV Under $80K segment see the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and Ford Everest hold the top two spots so far in 2025, followed by the Isuzu MU-X (4142 units), Kia Sorento (3284 units) and Subaru Outback (2917) rounding out the top five.
