First Proof of Genesis G80 Hybrid Sedan Emerges

First Proof of Genesis G80 Hybrid Sedan Emerges

Posted on August 27, 2025 By rehan.rafique No Comments on First Proof of Genesis G80 Hybrid Sedan Emerges

Genesis is indeed preparing its first-ever hybrid lineup, and now the G80 Hybrid sedan has been spotted in testing. Shared by our colleagues at Healer TV, an undisguised G80 was found parked in the street with a sticker written with the words “RG3 HEV”. RG3 is the codename of the third-generation G80, and HEV corresponds to Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Looks like Genesis was testing both the GV80 Hybrid and G80 Hybrid without camouflage, trying to remain incognito.

A Hybrid Future for Genesis: GV80, GV80 Coupe, and G80

Genesis’ electrification strategy kicks off with the GV80 Hybrid and GV80 Coupe Hybrid, followed shortly after by the G80 Hybrid sedan. All three models will share the same advanced hybrid powertrain, based on Hyundai’s innovative P1 + P2 parallel structure.

The system pairs a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors:

  • P1 motor: Connected directly to the engine to reduce fuel consumption.
  • P2 motor: Assists with driving force, improving efficiency and performance.

This dual-motor approach ensures that Genesis’ first hybrids combine performance with long-range capability, while preserving the premium driving feel customers expect.

Fuel Efficiency: Over 670 Miles of Range

Based on early estimates, the GV80 Hybrid could deliver up to 31.8 mpg (US) with an 80-liter fuel tank, providing an impressive 671-mile (1,080 km) range.

  • GV80 Hybrid (19-inch wheels): ~13.5 km/L (31.8 mpg US), 1,080 km range.
  • GV80 Coupe Hybrid (20-inch wheels): ~11.9 km/L (28.0 mpg US), 952 km range.

These numbers represent a 45% fuel economy improvement compared to gasoline-only models, making them strong contenders for buyers who demand both efficiency and luxury. The G80 Hybrid sedan is expected to post even better fuel efficiency figures when it arrives in Q4 2026 thanks to its better aerodynamics.

Power and Performance: Estimated 362 HP

The hybrid system isn’t just about saving fuel—it’s about enhancing driving dynamics. The standard 2.5 Turbo engine produces 304 hp and 43.0 kgf·m torque, but with hybrid assistance, output is expected to increase by around 19%:

  • Estimated power: ~362 horsepower
  • Estimated torque: ~46.9 kgf·m

This boost means the GV80 Hybrid, GV80 Coupe Hybrid, and G80 Hybrid will accelerate quicker and handle more confidently, offering performance on par with traditional luxury SUVs and sedans, but with far better efficiency.

EV-Inspired Features for Modern Luxury

Genesis hybrids will also benefit from high-voltage battery technology, introducing features typically found in electric vehicles:

  • Stay Mode: Keeps air conditioning and entertainment systems running without the engine—perfect for resting inside the vehicle.
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): Provides up to 3.6 kW of external power, enough to run appliances, electronics, or camping equipment.

These features blend practicality with luxury, making Genesis hybrids appealing to both families and tech-savvy buyers.

Release Timeline: GV80 First, G80 Hybrid to Follow

  • Q3 2026: Genesis GV80 Hybrid & GV80 Coupe Hybrid launch.
  • Q4 2026: Genesis G80 Hybrid sedan debut.
