Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the first official photo of its upcoming full-electric SUV, which will debut in 2026 and is the brand’s first standalone SUV.

Mercedes has unveiled the first official photo of the upcoming full-electric SUV and announced that it has started winter testing in northern Sweden, near the Arctic Circle. The new all-electric super SUV will be tested alongside the next-generation four-door electric coupe that will succeed the current Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe.

The next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe and the new Mercedes-AMG SUV will be built on the dedicated AMG.EA electric platform which features axial-flux motors and a new high-performance battery concept.

YASA axial-flux motors are characterized by compact dimensions, high torque, smooth operation, and minimal heat release.
A YASA motor weighs only 24 kg and develops 486 PS and 800 Nm. Since the new Mercedes-AMG coupe and SUV models will have two engines, they will develop up to 972 PS and 1,600 Nm, making them formidable competitors to the Porsche Taycan.
There are also rumors that a high-performance version with three engines, one in the front and two at the rear axle, will be developed.

The coupe will replace the current-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe with a thermal engine while the SUV could take the place of the current Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic.

According to unofficial sources, Mercedes-AMG will unveil a Vision AMG Concept-derived concept in 2025, which foreshadows the upcoming Mercedes-AMG SUV. The Vision AMG Concept, presented in May 2022, gives us the first glimpse of how it will look the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe.

With similar dimensions to the Vision AMG Concept, the SUV will have a length of 5,100 mm and a wheelbase of over 3,000 mm but as seen in the first official photo, the height will be lower than the AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic for aerodynamic reasons.

The Mercedes-AMG electric coupe and SUV will be produced at the Sindelfingen plant alongside the S-Class, while the drive train will be produced in the Unterturkheim plant.
