  • Key design details will be borrowed from other updated DS models, including the N°8.
  • Powertrain details haven’t been confirmed, but an all-electric model is expected.
  • Still, given buyers’ preferences, the new DS7 could get ICE and hybrid powertrains.

DS Automobiles is working on a new DS7, and for the first time, this all-new model has been spied testing up close. Expected to be unveiled next year, the new DS7 will look quite a bit different than the current model, and based on these spy shots, it should be all the better for it.

This disguised prototype was recently snapped out and about in France, and there’s no mistaking it as anything other than an SUV from the French brand. Like other current DS models, it rocks a pair of thin LED headlights that each include six subtle LED DRLs. However, these won’t be the only lights up front.

Look closely and you’ll notice two other tiny LEDs running vertically up the fascia, positioned just a couple of inches below the headlights. These lights have been mostly covered in camo, but like with the DS N°8, are expected to connect to the base of the headlights and run down towards the outer corners of the front bumper.

DS’s engineers have done a similarly good job of hiding key design details at the rear of the new DS7. We can see a small part of the LED taillights and suspect they’ll have a similar shape to those found on the N°8, albeit modified for use with this SUV. This prototype also lacks any visible tailpipes, and there’s a good reason for that: it’s all-electric.

We were previously under the impression that the new DS7 would be offered in mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and full-electric guises, but our spy photographers suspect it may only be sold as an EV. While we won’t know for sure this is the direction DS is going until next year, it’d probably be wise to offer some ICEs given the slow sales growth of EVs in most major markets.

All-electric models could borrow battery packs and electric motors from elsewhere in the Stellantis family. The 73 kWh and 98 kWh battery packs found in the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008 are the most likely options, as is a front-wheel drive model with 207 hp and a dual-motor, all-wheel drive version with 316 hp.
