Chevy has made no secret that it benchmarks the C8 Corvette against the best competition the rest of the world has to offer.
But those European carmakers apparently won’t be able to challenge the most powerful variant ever of America’s Sports Car on their home turf, at least according to published reports on the internet.
Anonymous sources tell GM Authority that GM won’t be selling its forthcoming 1,064-horsepower 2025 ZR1 in Europe next year when it goes on sale.
No official confirmation of that alleged decision has been made by GM, though Road & Track magazine did get this quote from spokesperson Trevor Tompkins: “We have shared Corvette ZR1 will be available in our North American and Middle East markets.” Hmmm, definitely no mention of Europe there.
That choice could be considered somewhat surprising since the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray are being offered in Europe, but then again, not really since stricter emissions regulations are slated to take effect in Europe next year. GM may figure it’s just not worth the time, effort, and money needed to certify the ZR1 for what would likely be only a handful of sales.
Current regulations have already seen the Z06’s output in Europe sliced by 34 horsepower and 21 lb-ft of torque due to the more restrictive exhaust required there.
The ZR1 likely would suffer the same fate if sold there.
The good news is that the decision to leave out of the ZR1 market, if true, would just mean more cars would be available for American customers.
