I would still get the stethoscope and try to locate the noisy area, item.
$2200 is about right for this repair. Find out what parts that they replace.
Plan on it being 3K to 3.5K. One-way clutch in red circle drives the ac/water pump.
It should be replaced at an extra charge. The part is $400 or so.
When you let off the gas, the one-way clutch pulley will free wheel until the slower rpms catch up.
Grease inside the one-way clutch will dry out causing the driver pulley not to free wheel.
You can test this by moving the ac pulley back and forth by hand. It will move in one direction only.
If it will not move, the pulley grease is dried out and locked up. Does it hurt anything, I have never seen one fail due to being locked up. Most all of the parts will be removed in that area; it does not hurt the change it out. Alternator has to be removed to replace the rubber belt in green circle. Intake manifold has to be removed to remove the alternator.
Hose in blue circle can split open from the inside out, loosing coolant and overheating the engine. Engine oil cooler in blue square can fail internally pumping engine oil into the cooling system. If replacing hose in blue circle, tell them that you have to order the o-ring separately for that hose.
2nd pic, red circle one-way driver clutch pulley. Yellow circle, water pump.
Extra charge, replace the water pump unless they included it.
Everything will be removed, just unbolt the water pump.
3rd pic, orange circle, belt tensioner pulley failed due to dried out grease, overheated,
melting the plastic pulley causing the belt to shred.
Belt pulley above the yellow circle shows what the plastic part looks like that melted in orange circle.
Next 3 pics, alternator driver gear bolt worked loose. Alt stopped spinning, worn on the gear and shaft.
We sand papered the shaft, installed new gear and bolt. We added blue Loctite to the new bolt threads.
After a while if one got towed in not charging the first thing we did was to see if the alt would spin free.
Most did due to lose bolt. Any time that we were doing the 150K or had the alt removed we always sold or included a new gear and bolt in the estimate price. The gear and bolt should be replaced when doing the alt rubber belt. There is a special tool to hold the gear when tightening the bolt.
Last is 2011 Maintenace sheet.
This is a lot of extra stuff to be replaced. If any of them fail, it will be a lot more $$$$$ to fix later.
Also, these extra things may never be a problem.
