After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.

This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.

Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 2004, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 2004 magazine covers below, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

January – Bentley Continental GT

By the top of 2004, a new era had begun for Bentley, which under Volkswagen Group ownership had finally launched its first new car, the Continental GT. The new coupe balanced Bentley’s sumptuous British luxury and elegant design with performance-oriented driver focus. Since then, the Continental GT became a veritable sensation, and the W12 engine that was launched with it has since been retired in favor of a hybrid V8 powertrain. Along with some other desirable British luxury vehicles, the Continental GT was the star of the January 2004 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

February – Honda/Acura NSX Concept, Audi Le Mans Quattro Concept, Dodge Tomahawk V10 Concept

Our February 2004 cover featured a look at what the future of the automotive world was going to look like. The concept of the next generation of the Acura NSX wouldn’t come to fruition. Instead, a new hybrid generation of the NSX would materialize in the mid-2010s. Meanwhile, the Audi Le Mans Quattro would give way to the R8, which looked almost exactly the same. After two generations, the R8 has only just been discontinued. Of course, the zany V10-powered motorcycle concept that was the Dodge Tomahawk wouldn’t become a production vehicle, either.

Cover Cars: duPont REGISTRY magazine, October 2004, spotlights a silver Chrysler ME Four-Twelve supercar on a bold red background with luxury and exotic cars—celebrating automotive excellence ahead of its 40th Anniversary.

October – Chrysler ME Four-Twelve

2004 was a much different time than today. In the earlier years of the DaimlerChrysler era, many of us thought that one of, if not the fastest production car in the world, would wear a Chrysler badge, and it would be captivatingly beautiful as well. That car was the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve, which would have had a quad-turbocharged V12 engine and reached a top speed of 248 mph, if the dreams of its production weren’t dashed. Still, the incredible concept starred on the cover of duPont REGISTRY’s October 2004 issue.

The elegant-looking and robust supercar was duPont REGISTRY’s November 2004 cover star.
