After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.

This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.

Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 2000, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 2000 magazine covers below, seeing what the luxury and exotic car world had to offer at the dawn of the new millenium, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

Front cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, January 2000, featuring the Pagani Zonda C12 with front and rear views as one of the iconic Cover Cars, surrounded by images of other luxury cars.

January – Pagani Zonda C12

For Pagani, this was the supercar that began a legacy. After working for Lamborghini, Horacio Pagani decided to create his own supercar with unique design and the ambitious use of carbon fiber, a bold innovation at the time. The result was the Zonda C12, a Mercedes-Benz V12-powered masterpiece with bold looks that would spur an incredible legacy of supercars and hypercars from Pagani that we know today. To start off the new millenium, the Zonda C12 starred on duPont REGISTRY’s January 2000 cover.

Cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, February 2000, featuring a black classic car and a blue motorcycle as the Cover Cars, with the word "CHOICES" at the bottom.

February – Shelby Cobra

Alongside the Super X motorcycle from the revived Excelsior-Henderson of the late ’90s, the ever-iconic Shelby Cobra was the star of our February 2000 “Choices” cover.

Cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, March 2000: 40th Anniversary issue featuring a black BMW Z8 convertible with the top down, surrounded by iconic Cover Cars from both classic and modern eras.

March – BMW Z8

BMW’s premier roadster of the early 2000s, the Z8, is still celebrated today as a cherished and collectible piece of automotive excellence, and it served as the March 2000 cover star of duPont REGISTRY.

Cover Cars: April 2000 duPont REGISTRY magazine featuring two silver Porsche 911 Turbos, celebrating the 15th anniversary issue with over 3,000 autos for sale. A standout collector’s edition leading to the 40th Anniversary legacy.

April – Porsche 911 Turbo

The 996 Porsche 911 Turbo was the cover star of the April 2000 duPont REGISTRY, continuing a tradition of Porsche 911s starring as the cover of April Anniversary issues and celebrating the 15th Anniversary cover.

Cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, May 2000, featuring red Dodge Viper GTS/R Cover Cars with white stripes; several other car images appear along the top and bottom edges. 40th Anniversary highlights included.

May – Dodge Viper GTS-R

A crown jewel of American performance and muscle car legacy in its time, the V10-powered Dodge Viper’s GTS-R racing-bred variant was the cover star of the May 2000 issue of duPont REGISTRY.

Cover Cars: June 2000 duPont REGISTRY magazine featuring two views of a silver Jaguar F-Type Concept car on a striking red background, celebrating the 40th Anniversary.

June – Jaguar F-Type Concept

The production version of the Jaguar F-TYPE, 25 years after this cover, has officially bowed out. The powerful, driver-focused sports car sensation looked very different when this concept car wore its name in 2000, starring on the June 2000 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

Cover Cars: duPont REGISTRY's July 2000 issue celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, showcasing vivid front and rear views against an American flag, with other cars featured along the top border.

July – Chevrolet Corvette

Yet again, July 2000 sees a Corvette on the cover of duPont REGISTRY, this time a yellow C5 with its targa top open.

The August 2000 duPont REGISTRY cover showcases two views of a silver Ferrari convertible—one of the standout Cover Cars—on a striking red background, surrounded by illustrations of various sports cars.

August – Ferrari 360 Spider

An open-top icon from the Prancing Horse, both the front and rear angles of the Ferrari 360 Spider are showcased on the cover of duPont REGISTRY’s August 2000 issue.

Cover of duPont REGISTRY magazine, September 2000, featuring a yellow Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 and other Cover Cars in the background.

September – Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0

Combining a larger 6.0-liter engine with the VT’s all-wheel drive, the Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 was the model that would help the Diablo bow out, giving way to a Murciélago that was under development at the time. The elegant conclusion to the Diablo era was the cover star of duPont REGISTRY’s September 2000 issue.

October 2000 duPont REGISTRY magazine showcases Cover Cars: Mercedes-Benz C320, CLK430 Cabriolet, and CL600, plus sports car images along the borders—celebrating automotive style leading up to Mercedes' 40th Anniversary.

October – Mercedes-Benz C 320, CLK 430, CL 600

A selection of Mercedes-Benz models was on display on the October 2000 cover of duPont REGISTRY, including the C 320, Mercedes-Benz’s smart V6-powered executive sedan at the time, the CLK 430, its elegant cabriolet, and its top-of-the-line pillarless coupe, the CL 600.

DuPont REGISTRY's 40th Anniversary cover showcases the BMW Z9 concept car with gullwing doors open, viewed from front and rear. Cover Cars and various sports cars frame the top and bottom edges for an eye-catching display.

November – BMW Z9 Concept

This bold-looking concept from BMW was quite a departure from what the manufacturer was doing at the time, including the use of eye-catching gullwing doors. Starring on the November 2000 cover of duPont REGISTRY, the Z9 not only foretold BMW’s forthcoming design language for the 2000s, but more prominently served as a precursor for what would become the 6 Series grand touring coupe.

Magazine cover featuring two silver Porsche Carrera GT convertibles, both with "NRTHPOL" license plates, on a festive green background with holiday-themed text, celebrating the duPont REGISTRY 40th Anniversary Cover Cars.

December – Porsche Carrera GT Concept

It wouldn’t be until a few years later that Porsche would introduce the production version of the Carrera GT, thanks to this concept version of the Porsche flagship supercar and 959 successor being well received and Porsche growing significantly thanks to the introduction of the Cayenne. However, the Carrera GT Concept still starred on the December 2000 cover of duPont REGISTRY, and the $350,000 price listed on the cover is a far cry from the prices of Carrera GT examples on the second-hand market today.
