After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.
This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.
Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 1992, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Take a trip down memory lane and look at our 1992 magazine covers below, and continue to celebrate our milestone anniversary by buying a copy of our special 40th anniversary edition magazine.

January – Dodge Charger Daytona/Ford Mustang Shelby
American performance classics took the January 1992 cover of duPont REGISTRY, like the legendary Dodge Charger Daytona with its iconic massive rear wing, and a Shelby Ford Mustang with its instantly recognizable white and blue color scheme.

February – Lamborghini LM002
The infamous original off-roader from Lamborghini, the LM002 was a radically styled vehicle that combined the V12 engine from the Countach with off-road capability. Incredibly zany at the time, the LM002 would not only go on to inspire Lamborghini’s most popular model today, the Urus, but also a legion of luxury performance SUVs and the burgeoning Super SUV market of today. The exclusive creation featured on Feburary 1992’s duPont REGISTRY cover.

March – Mercedes-Benz 300 SL
A perennial collector-worthy masterpiece, the roadster version of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was shown off on the March 1992 cover of duPont REGISTRY, already touted for its investment potential.

April – Porsche 911 RS America
The Porsche 911 RS America was shown on duPont REGISTRY’s seventh anniversary special, the April 1992 issue, with the iconic ducktail spoiler of the car proudly emblazoned on the cover.

May – Jiotto Caspita
The brainchild of Yoshikata Tsukamoto, then-president of lingerie manufacturer Wacoal, and Minoru Hayashi, the president of race car manufacturer Dome, the Jiotto Caspita was a Japanese prototype supercar billed the “F1 on the road,” with versions powered by a Subaru flat-12 F1 engine and a Judd V10. The unique supercar was displayed on duPont REGISTRY’s May 1992 cover.

June – Jaguar XJS, Jaguar E-type, Jaguar XK120
A pantheon of Jaguar touring cars, like the contemporary Jaguar XJS, the Jaguar E-type, which was already a legend then and an even greater one today, and the Jaguar XK120, an even earlier example of Jaguar’s open-top touring prowess, starred on duPont REGISTRY’s June 1992 cover.

July – Chevrolet Corvette
The Corvette is yet again the star of duPont REIGSTRY’s July cover in 1992, and this time, the C4-generation Corvette is shown on the magazine cover with a photograph, rather than an illustration.

August – Ferrari F40
The Ferrari F40 stands today as one of the most legendary supercars from the brand, and it especially holds significance as the last Ferrari that Enzo Ferrari himself approved before his passing. Early in the story of its legacy, the Ferrari F40 starred on the August 1992 cover of duPont REGISTRY.

September – Jaguar XJR-15
The Jaguar XJR-15 was an icon of the supercar racing world in its time, and this specific example, shown on the September 1992 cover of duPont REGISTRY, features a Cor Euser livery.

October – Nissan 300ZX Convertible, BMW 5-Series Touring, Bentley Continental R
duPont REGISTRY’s October 1992 cover saw a unique assortment of vehicles, including the Nissan 300ZX Convertible, an icon of ’90s Japanese performance, the smart BMW 5-Series Touring station wagon, a body style that is sorely underrated today, and the Bentley Continental R, an opulent touring coupe in its time.

November – BMW 3.0 CSL, BMW 5-Series, BMW 3-Series
In November 1992, the cover of duPont REGISTRY was the home for three iconic examples of BMW’s Art Cars, a collaboration between BMW’s celebrated lineup of luxury cars and prominent figures in the international art community. The legacy of BMW Art Cars has only grown significantly since then.

December – Porsche 911 America Roadster
Continuing a streak of ending the year with a Porsche for the December issue of duPont REGISTRY, December 1992 features a Porsche 911 America Roadster, which is inspired by the classic 356 America Roadster, with Santa Claus himself behind the wheel.
