After 40 years, duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars capture moments in automotive history.

This year, duPont REGISTRY, the source for supercars since 1985, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. In that time, some of the world’s most desirable, iconic, and influential luxury and exotic cars have graced the cover of our magazine over the past 40 years, and together, the cover cars of duPont REGISTRY’s hundreds of monthly issues tell a story of automotive history and its evolution since the ‘80s.

Looking back at duPont REGISTRY’s cover cars from the year 1985, some serious nostalgia is stirred up for any automotive enthusiast, and each year, a cover car shows an iconic moment of the past, when a car we see as a classic today was the hottest new creation on the market. Premier Issue – Mercedes-Benz SL, Ferrari 308, Rolls-Royce Corniche

Three luxury staples in their time graced the very first duPont REGISTRY magazine cover. From the grand touring Mercedes-Benz icon, to Ferrari’s iconic ’80s sports machine, and the ultra-luxe Rolls-Royce cruiser, these three cars represented everything duPont REGISTRY has been about since day one: the finest luxury and exotic cars on the market.

June – Porsche 911

An enthusiast favorite to this day, the Porsche 911 was the star of our June 1985 issue. In those days, the air-cooled Porsche 911 that is a retro collector favorite and the subject of many Porsche fans’ reverence was one of the world’s dominating sports cars, with its iconic silhouette and the instantly recognizable duck tail spoiler.

July – Rolls-Royce Corniche

A long-standing icon of ultra-luxury motoring, the Rolls-Royce Corniche still turns heads today with its timeless looks and everlasting charm. In the July 1985 cover, the Corniche’s iteration of Rolls-Royce’s unmistakable Pantheon Grille is the cover star of duPont REGISTRY.

August – Lamborghini Countach

One of the most legendary and celebrated supercars of all time, the Countach originated many standards for Lamborghini, being one of the first examples of its iconic angular design language, and being its first flagship supercar with a naturally aspirated, longitudinally-mounted midship V12 engine. It’s an automotive legend that certainly deserves a place on the cover of duPont REGISTRY.

September – duPont Model G

Created by E. Paul duPont in Wilmington, Delaware, duPont Motor Manufacturing created the Model G, a sporty luxury car that in the near century sice has become a cherished pre-war classic and a concours d’elegance award winner. Its unique hood ornament graced our September 1985 magazine cover.

October – Jaguar E-type

Often called one of, if not the most beautiful car ever made, the Jaguar E-type is one of the world’s greatest sports car icons, with elegant design and both luxurious and sporty character. It’s a legend that’s certainly deserving of the limelight on duPont REGISTRY’s October 1985 cover.

November – Ferrari 308

Ferrari’s ’80s icon is illustrated in an interesting angle on duPont REGISTRY’s November 1985 cover. Its starring role alongside Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I. cemented the Ferrari 308 as one of the most iconic Ferrari classics of all time, while its angular styling and fun-to-drive character both continue to speak for themselves today among classic Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts.


December 1985 marked a special edition of the duPont REGISTRY for its 40th Anniversary, featuring a captivating illustration of a classic car front view with an intricately detailed hood ornament on the cover.

December – Duesenberg Model J

One of the most iconic models to emerge from Duesenberg, the Model J is a stunning example of a sporty and elegant pre-war classic. It was already an icon when it graced the December 1985 cover of duPont REGISTRY, and decades later, it’s a head-turner at the most prestigious concours events.
