QUESTION; Went to DEALERSHIP today and got 75k maintenance on my VOLVO S80 3.2 which involves oil change and filter, changing brake fluid, replace cabin air filter replacing engine air filter and inspecting the rest of the fluids and cleaning the sunroof. I ALSO ASKED IF MY FUEL FILTER COULD BE CHANGED.. SERVICE ADVISOR CAME BACK AND SAID THE BOOK doesn’t require change until 105k miles on this car. When I came back to pick up the car, service advisor and others in dealership check out says this car [the 3.2 6 cylinder has NO fuel filter]… or at least none that is serviceable.. they say only fuel filter for this car is located in gas tank.
IS THIS CORRECT…

What model year S80 3.2?
I’m seeing differences in the owners manuals for different years.

2007 owners manual indicates that all but the S40/V50/C70 engine codes have replaceable fuel filters, whereas the 2011 owners manual says only the XC90 HAS a replaceable fuel filter?

I guess I could check VIDA…

2008 s80 fuel filter

I am not seeing a fuel filter on my 2008 S80 3.2 either. There is a belly pan on it and I took it off. There is no fuel filter near the rear tire on passenger side. It has a plastic tank too.

(Edited)

August 15, 2024,

SAME issue here can’t find the fuel filter on my 3.2 S80. Vida specifically says that my vin number has a replaceable fuel filter,(part # 32242190) therefore I proceeded to buy one before actually climbing under the car because an I ternet search and vida both says this part fits and it’s a simple common maintenance part,, NO BIG DEAL. Upon receiving the filter and climbing under the car there’s no filter to be found!! I then proceeded to call a Volvo dealer and provide them with my vin and ask where the filter is located. Once again I was advised of the exact same thing the Internet and Vida said that this car has a serviceble in line filter located just in front of the back passenger wheel and they then advised me that I indeed had the correct part… Problem is all 3 of them are wrong because there is no filter in line on this car and from my internet searches to determine if maybe it is the correct filter but it may be located inside of the gas tank has led me to the conclusion that there is in fact NO fuel filter which can be changed and only some posts in Volvo forums has stated that “SOME” of these cars have in line filters and some don’t have filters just the sock on the fuel pump housing which can’t be changed but only the entire housing has to be changed is the only information I’ve found but even then they suggest calling a dealer and running the vin both which has only gave me incorrect information and led me to buy a filter I don’t need.
So my post may be mostly to complain about this and about Volvo being so ignorant and incompetent that they can’t even determine a vehicles correct parts not even using there very own programing software and using the cars vin number… I’ve worked on cars a lot in my time and this has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever ran across and that’s saying a lot considering all the ridiculous things I’ve encountered with this S80!! I love the way this car runs(when it runs right) and I love the way it drives but this car has truly been a headache to attempt to work on and I feel like I’m almost done trying with this thing! If anyone can send me the great news that the fuel filter is located inside of the tank would be great but I’m guessing this car don’t have one and probably needs a fuel pump and if it doesn’t have a filter then I might as well order 6 injectors and I would imagine the miss I’m getting or difficultly starting is due to clogged injectors considering. Because how on earth could those injectors be stopped up after 15 years and 150,000 miles without a filter… Truthfully I am amazed the injectors made it this long all vehicles should have a fuel filter and if anyone says different they must be like Volvo and not know what they’re talking about .. Trust me my dad drove a 18 wheeler for Chevron for years and he said the truckers would mix gas with diesel and kerosene and when we buy 94 octane we’re lucky if were getting 80 octane along with who knows how much water and dirt from these holding tanks at these gas stations! And in the winter it is even worse and I’m sure these car manufacturers know of this and in Sweden you would think they would use 2 or 3 filters so for Volvo to only use a “SOCK” shows that Volvo obviously don’t care about there customers and considering the price of there vehicles it is really a slap in those customers faces!!
And remove my post if you’d like I’m complaining for sure but I thought I’d write this to save someone else from wasting hours searching for a filter that does not exist and hours from researching online because it HAS to be there Vida and Volvo says so and they would know heck they used the vin…. PSYCH… Just not funny though Volvo so haha to your cruel joke and wasting hours of my life!!! Next experiment I’m going to take it into a dealer to have a fuel filter replaced and play ignorant to knowing anything about cars whatsoever just to see if they actually charge me for changing a filter because I feel like they will.. I will report back once I take it in!! I bet they’ll charge me and do nothing because heck it’s right in Vida,, right… Will report back FOR SURE!!
