Miami police caught a wanted felon after a brief chase that ended in a crash and multiple serious charges

- A Miami man taunted police with “psych” before fleeing a stop and crashing nearby.
- The suspect hit a semi, tried to run, but was injured and quickly arrested on foot.
- He was already wanted on eight warrants at the time of the traffic stop attempt.
Running from the police is never a great idea. Even some of the few that initially get away end up right back in custody not long after. The majority don’t even make it that far. That’s why it’s especially bold to taunt an officer before attempting to flee. And it’s why some count it as karmic justice when the taunter ends up in jail shortly thereafter.

In this case, the taunting suspect was 42-year-old Eduardo Barbaro Gonzalez, according to Miami police. Officers allegedly attempted to stop Mr. Gonzalez in his Dodge Charger after allegedly witnessing what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction. When they moved in and told him he wasn’t free to leave, Gonzalez made it clear he had other plans.
A Short Escape with a Loud Exit
According to WPLG, the suspect exchanged a few words with the officer, then laughed and said “hahaha, sike!” (or “psych”) before driving off. The encounter took place at 2280 NW 28th Street, near a small store where officers had first spotted Gonzalez. He made it just two blocks before crashing into a semi truck at the intersection of NW 23rd Avenue and NW 23rd Street.
Of all the places to crash, Gonzalez just happened to end up colliding with a truck that had another police officer right behind it. Officers say he attempted to flee on foot after the crash but was unable to due to a leg injury.
Identity Problems and a Long Rap Sheet
From there, police took the suspect to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he allegedly provided a fake name and date of birth. Only when an officer used a fingerprint reader on Mr. Gonzalez did authorities realize who he was.

It turns out that he’s allegedly a wanted felon already with eight active warrants before the teeny tiny chase. Officers ultimately booked him into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a litany of charges. They include resisting an officer, fleeing, robbery, battery, assault, grand theft, burglary, possession of cocaine, criminal mischief, and more. Suffice it to say, he’s facing serious time.
