I thought it might be a good idea to share my V90 and any issues and changes I do to it.
Especially considering how far it has driven.
It was driven as a Taxi here in Sweden and has had monthly oil changes as part of Volvos Taxi service program.
It was delivered from Volvo with the taxi equipment, paint protection film in all doorways and behind handles, black inner ceiling, tan seats, red tape in all the doorways (so it is more noticeable when the door is opened in the road), extra roof antenna for taxi systems, pre wired with alcohol lock and probably a lot more that I still am unaware of!
I bought it 2 weeks ago knowing that it had an engine light, according to the seller it is because of an issue with the adblue system, Volvo has been unable to diagnose the issue and has replaced alot of the adblue system, the next step according to them is replacing the ECM and seeing if that resolves the issue. The previous owner chose not to do that since that would be too costly.
I read out all of the error codes on the car below.
B150549 – Heating Steering Wheel, “System internal failure” Resolved
U110400 – Interrupted communication with climate control module Resolved
P241300 – Exhaust Gas recirculation system performance, “General failure” Resolved
B15B693 – Combustion preheater Module, “Component Faulty”
B142713 + B142313 Pedestrian Protection Airbag Sensor #6 & #2, “General electrical failure”
P24C768 – Particulate Matter Sensor, “Temperature Circuit Range/Performance”
P00BE00 – Mass Or Volume air flow “B” circuit range/performance
P200A00 – Intake manifold runner performance, “Bank 1”
P22FB00 – NOx Sensor performance – “sensing element(Bank 1, sensor 1)”
P220E00 – NOx Sensor Heater control circuit, “Range/Performance(Bank 1, Sensor 1)”
P220492 – NOx Sensor Circuit intermittent (Bank 1, sensor 1), “Component faulty”
P226200 – Turbo/Super charger boost pressure not detected mechanical, general failure
P02CB00 – Turbocharger/Supercharger B Underboost condition
Other than the error codes I also saw I needed to change the rear light on the right side (Because of condensation) and that the steering wheel is quite worn.
My first order of business was to replace the steering wheel, I also hoped that this would resolve the steering wheel heating ( I had already checked fuses).
Replacing it was easy but it did not resolve the heating issue, I instead assumed that it was the connection between the steering wheel and the car that was bad (the steering column) part number (32266885).
Replacing this resolved the issue with the heating and removed the U110400 code aswell.
After this I researched some general problems with my engine D4204T14 and found that there seems to be a lot of issues with the ERG cooler.
So I took off the cover of the valve and checked it, and it was completely locked up.
I took it apart and tried to clean it without any change in the function, so I went to the junkyard and got a working valve, put it in the car with new seals and it works great!
That seems to have removed the P241300 code.
On top of this I did a general service of the car, new oil filter, new oil, cabin air filter, engine air filter, fuel filter.
During the service I noticed that the charger intake hose was sitting very loosely onto the charger, so I replaced that aswell.
I also believe that the PCV valve is dead, so I have ordered a new valve cover and will replace it as soon as I get it!
Continuing my checks of the car I saw that the MAP sensor was completely filled with carbon, I tried cleaning it but have yet to see any results of that. Decided that I will remove the intake and clean it aswell as check the swirl flaps to make sure that they are functioning as the should ( I suspect that they are as locked up as the ERG was).
I am not entirely sure right now what I should do about the NOx error codes, it is preferred to resolve them but if I don’t manage, then I think I will do a NOx delete with coding.
It is also pretty expensive to replace them as a trouble shooting step.
The issue with the pedestrian airbag is very annoying since it pops up in the dash every time you start the car, I am hoping that they are just unplugged or are sitting badly in the bumpers, will the both front and back bumpers off and check them, not really sure what sensors are number 2 & 6 though!
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
